Hello,
One of a few things may have happened. When the laptop was closed last, there may have been something on the keyboard (pen, toothpick etc) that could have caused the crack - The laptop may have received an impact that she was not aware of - the crack may have been pre-existing (cracked slightly a while ago) and finally gave way. Here's something else I have encountered......When she opens and closes the laptop, does she usually lift the lcd from one corner only, both corners at the same time, or from the centre? If you open a laptop by one corner of the lcd only, you are flexing the lcd every time, and this can weaken it and eventually cause a crack. Also, if you try to open the laptop from one corner, and the lid is still latched, this flexes the lcd as well. Anyhow, Unless your warranty will cover it, go to
www.laptopscreens.com and order a new lcd panel. I have ordered from this site a few times now, and their prices are by far the best I have ever seen ($80 average). Order the screen, and if you're not comfortable installing it yourself, take it to a good service shop and have it done.
Hope this helps!
Joe
