My 2 year old sharp hdtv [26" i think] has no viewable picture except on the PC digital input, and no audio [no audio on any input, including pc]. The 3 video inputs all produce a full screen set of pink lines and dots alternating with a dark screen. Warranty long since expired. Have not tried VGA input Thanks. Judson Jenings

well, what i have right now is at least a working monitor for my pc/mac, and pretty good one at that. I assume if I am lucky I will find one bad part to replace, can they be bought and do they cost a lot?

    thanks

The video thing happens as the capacitors and resistors may fail and so the video will not be seen, instead you get horizantal or veritcal lines. or in this case the case is more worse where only dots are visible. Sound problem might have occured due to variety of reasons.

But the thing here is the repair work can only be carried out by the technician, and may cost somewhere around 200$!.. so it is for you to decide on how to proceed.!

actually, sharp has a problem with heat sync's and the compound they used for their heat sync transfer. remove the back, remove the boards one at a time, being very carefull of the double stacked boards, cause these connectors are very sensitive. Check all heat sync's for melting of the rubbery soft heat sync transfer areas.
when these melt they cause several things to happen including picture problems, and no sound or sound that cuts in and out.
please make sure you completely remote the main input board as usually there is one mounted under it.

if you have this problem, then you need to clean the area's and replace it with a new one.

what i do is cut the good pieces in half and use them in the bad areas.

My Rca 52 inch has lost color But If I set the feature

PIP means the set uses either two tuners or a dual tuner--could be a issue with the tuner. If it has a swap feature in the PIP use it to see if color when tuner is switched from main to PIP tuner.

A possible way around the issue is to look to see if rear audio/video inputs have color---you could route signal from a box etc to one of those and BYPASS the problem if rear inputs do not have this problem(not likely they will).

yes..that would make sense..the cable is getting dried out, and has less conductivity when it's hot or warm..that's not unusual

How much is a 1998 26 inch Sharp tv worth?

If it is in good working condtion and looking very clean you may be able to get about $60 to $100 for it. Remember that there are new LCD TV sets that are very low in cost and will out perform your set.
I have seen some 24 inch models on sale for under $250 with a 3 year warranty. And, these sets will work in 16:9, has component inputs, and are packed with features.

In these times, people are trying to get rid of their CRT sets and change for the LCD types.

A 24 inch flat screen TV has about the same viewing as a 25 to 26 inch CRT TV.

DLP Colors Are Off - Picture Is Mostly Blue and Yellow

Sounds like you've lost your red video signal (chroma) somewhere along the line. This tv has a 3 board video path. Analog main pcb --->Digital main pcb --->DMD pcb. The analog has all your inputs on it, except DVI and RGB which go straight into the digital board. The digital scales (upconverts) the signal to HD (1080 or native) and sends it to the DMD or light engine. See which inputs are distorted. If only DVI is clean then you problem is the analog board. If you menu and everything is distorted then suspect the DMD board. If you run component or DVI through the resolutions (480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i) you can get an idea between the digital board and dmd. The menu is generated on the digital board. Somewhere red is getting lost.

Most likely a digital processing error, since it happens on multiple inputs. Service Time.

No Picture Audio Only

It sound like the components are ok. Are any of the component leads discolored from excessive heat? If so it may be that the resolder looks ok but is not actually adhering to the lead. Use solder wick or a desolder iron to remove the old solder, clean the lead(s) by scraping with a sharp knife edge to bare good metal and resolder.
