Jammed lens Lens jammed in the middle of taking pictures, I sell on eBay so I take a lot of pictures. All I get is "Lens error" and it will not turn off or on and you can hear the motor grinding. Your quick response would be much appreciated.

More than likely internal damage to the small gears of the lens.
A repair is in order.

When i try to turn my camera on it sounds like its going to turn on but it stops and gives me the message on the screen Lens error 111. then it shuts off. I've been messing with it and i can get it to...

Often times a lens error comes up when the lens extension/focus mechanism has been jammed. It may almost fully function, but then the gears run into a small spot where those tiny gears are jammed, broken, have debris on them, etc. When the motor hits unexpected resistance, the camera kicks back the lens error code and shuts down before it does further damage to itself. Make sure there isn't anything wedged between where the pieces of the lens slide past each other. Past that, the best solution I can offer is to look on ebay... most cameras either die because the lens mechanism breaks, or because the LCD screen breaks. If you can find a donor camera with a bad screen, you can combine the best of both at a pretty reasonable price. These cameras are quite complicated to transplant, but fortunately most lens mechanisms and sensors are a full unit of themselves, and so are the lcd screens. Before investing in the donor camera, take yours apart and see how difficult it appears to be to work on it. Then make your decision. Good luck!

Lens stuck would not go in now it won't come out.

There is a great web page that will describe the problem, and give you a few things to try before you have to get it serviced. Here it is:
http://camerarepair.blogspot.com/2007/12/fixing-lens-error-on-digital-camera.html
Sometimes you can get lucky with this problem, but if some part, such as a gear or lever in the lens assembly breaks, or gets jammed out of position, replacement of the lens assembly is required. They sell them as assemblies because it isn't time efficient to take them apart, troubleshoot, and reassemble. Get an estimate first if you choose to have it repaired, sometimes it's just better to sell it on ebay "as is" and buy a new one. I've seen name brands on sale for $69...10.2 mp also...can't beat that! Good luck, maybe it's just dirt jamming it.

Displays lens error when turned on will not take pictures, lens wont open

Any camera repair guy can repair these. A store that specifically sells digital camera can repair these cameras easily. This is actually a common problem for this camera and its cousin, the m525.

I have been tinkering with theses cameras. The lens for the m425 (and m525 ) can be removed and repaired manually. Since I am a amateur, my success rate is about 50%. It all depends on how jammed the lens. If anyone has good technique in manually repair these, I would like to know.

The one good thing is that lens can be removed and swapped out with another from a m425/m525 camera. I would look for broken cameras on eBay, ones with workings lens to replace your non-working lens

Nikon s200 when camera turned on lens error

You may have a jammed lens assy. When the camera is turned on, camera go through a few stages of processing to be ready to take picutre and if the lens does not respond mechanically, it will give you a lens error. Lens jams due to sand or impact (even unnoticable light impact). If the lens is extended out you can somehow grab the lens barrel lightly with two fingers while turning the power on and nudge it side by side. If this did not help, take it to a reliable local technician for a diagnostic(should be free). Good luck. -james

Turning camera on, gets "LENS ERROR" and just stays on screen, can't take pictures.

Take a look at the little 2 grey pieces that open and close over your lens when you turn it on and off. Those might be jammed, if so try to straighten them out. That would be the easy answer, otherwise you might have a problem with lens inside the camera in which case youll need to get it repaired.

Lens error my friend

The 3 studs that allow the lens to move in a circular motion are jammed outside the track. it will require a complete dissembly to fix . most folks just sell it on ebay to a repair person.

Hello, there is a problem with the optical unit (lens). Normaly when the camera is in camera mode the lens should go out. In your case it seems that for some reason the lens is stuck. Please contact your nearest Sony dealer. If you want to repair the camera yourself please tell me. I can send some additional info as well. Regards, Arpi
