I own a DV610 for 4 years now and was very happy with it...for the last three months I was using the cam as a webcam attached to my computer. However, while the computer was off, I disconnected from it and now the cam does not work anymore. I thought it was becasue of the battery, but I charged it for almost 10 hours and the cam does receive enough energy to light up a dim image on the LCD screen and make a static noice through the speaker. What is wrong??

I suggest you try this as well as the latest drivers:
Download Splitcam from www.splitcamera.com
Install it, run it, click on the Video button and select your webcam. Click on the on button. You will see your face.
Now go to Skype>Tools>Options>Video Setting and select Splitcam as your webcam.
It worked for me! I got this off a skype message forum!!! Bill was the guy who posted on it, he rules!
If you can see your face on split cam it will work on Skype! My Aiptek pencam 2 is over 9 years old and it works!
Hello! I have not used my cam as Webcam for many years, but I think all you have to do is connect the cam with PC, move the SELECT NOB / SWITCH on WEBCAM mood and the Windows (XP) will automatically detect NEW HARDWARE (Webcam). Provide the drivers information and files from the disk and you are done.
BTW, its webcam result is not as good as its still picture quality.
I have the same camera but the USB port of the camera is not functioning.since I have installed Avermedia TV tuner &recorder card,I can connect the AV output of the camera to the tuner input. Now can function as a web cam.If USB output is functioning then live mode of camera manager will help the webcam use-Satya,Bangalore -27th April2008
I just posted a comment on this cam recently...
I bought a new cam and my vivitar is going spare mate.
As i suggested in my last comment, i am happy to give this away for free..
If ur hapy to pay whatever minimal postage it would cost, I would be happy to give youi my vivitar 3720, its rarely been used, (once last year for a 2week holiday)
Let me know if it would be of any use to you Terence..
I'm sure it's not worth spending any money on getting it repaired, given the cost of new cams now.....
I'd be hapy to forward mine on to you, i have no use for it anymore...
