My sony vgn-nr110e says bootmgr is missing

What version of windows? This could mean the hard drive is getting ready to fail. You may be able to repair it using start up repair.

This sounds like a hard drive failure, try your recovery disc if available, if no change! have the hardware checked for possible replacement.

Smart failure.. bootmgr is missing..I have recovery discs but dvd player is not working

Yes, you can make USB boot drive. However main problem is the Smart... error. It is your hard drive. You need to fix that first! Try reseating the drive. Next go into BIOS by pressing F key during boot. Might be F2? Make sure BIOS recognizes the hard drive.

Once you get the drive going again, you can start the install / repair again. USB drive tool.

Bootmgr is missing

I don't work in a lab anymore but when I did (in XP/2000 days) this apparently is the equivalent of the 'NTLDR not found' error, which was always bad... you would have to go in through recovery console to repair it. Evidently the BOOTMGR is the new NTLDR, so your going to have to repair the OS. Check out these links I found, and good luck!

Bootmgr is missing, possible loose cables

No. The files on the hard drive the make it boot the OS are corrupt or missing. You need an OS disc to try a repair install. A repair install will leave all you files intact and only repair the OS files. A fresh install or recovery disc will cause you to loose all your info.

Restoring

You may need to reinstall the OS using your recovery disks or start from scratch and reinstall the whole OS if you have the disk.
