Question about NAD C350 2-Channel Amplifier

1 Answer

NAD C 340

Hi my amp of 12 years has expired after hard use. No warning, no smoke, no nothing... just stopped dead. Some say its the transformer, others a capacitor(?). Is it worth fixing? What else may be the problem? Where can I find circuit schematics for this model? How much am I looking at to get it repaired? All help appreciated. Thanks

Hi, thanks for reply. Yes it maybe an internal fuse. I will have it checked out. These units are quite robust and I have never had problems in the past - it would be a shame not to at least do a basic investigation. Thanks

R-9H84B. It just stopped working.Went to use it and nothing , thought it was unplugged. Repair man replaced the 20 amp fuse and it immediately blew. He said it was the transformer. Is it transformer?

It could be the transformer. Is it generating any smoke? They usually burn up because of shorted windings.

If the fuse blew, however, when the door was opened or closed, then you have a bad door switch.

If the unit heats, and the fuse blew after a few minutes, then you could have a weak fuse holder.

Behringer Powerplay Pro-8 HA8000

Most behringer transformers are 18Volts 1-2 amps to my knowledge, specially in the smaller units. If you are not sure start with reconnecting a 12 volt (AC) external supply and see how you go. Behringer uses (indicated) 17Volts transformers but that is neither here nor there. Good Luck.

What does blue smoke mean

Burning oil. Could be a couple of things. Possible your valve guide seals are warn out. If its blue smoke mostly when you first start the car, its likely valve guide seals. If its continuously smoking blue, its more than likely a broken or warn out piston ring. If its just every so slightly blue in tent, it might be worth a try to replace your PCV valve first. When the PCV valve gets completely gummed up, the pressure inside your valve covers has no way to vent other than forcing its way through the valves into the cylinders often times taking oil with it. Since PCV's usually only run out about $10 its worth a shot. Other wise, you've got a decent overhaul ahead of you for either piston rings or valve seals...on a 12 year old car most folks would either choose to scrap it, or live with the blue smoke while monitoring oil levels and watching for fouled plugs. Hope that helps and good luck!!

I think that your batteries may have expired due to old age and are refusing to hold a charge.

Ni cad batteries have a shelf life and once that time limit has expired, you need to replace the batteries with new ones which will begin counting down to their expire date and also go dead.
once ni cad batteries have expired and past their time limit
nothing can be done to revive them ,they are forevermore dead and must be replaced.

that is the reason why i buy 120 volt ac drills instead of battery powered drills which are always dead by the time i need to use them and wont hold a charge when i try to recharge them.

my cordless radio phone batteries go dead after 1 hour on the phone, when they were newer,i could talk for 4 hours and still have 1/4 charge left. soon they will only last 30 minutes and need a 12 hour recharge to come back to 4 bars.
so i expect to have to pay 4 new batteries by christmas.

One other option may be that your charger is not working properly and developing the required voltage.
that also happens but not as often as dead batteries that wont hold a charge.
if you have a radio shack nearby, even if its a 20 mile drive
they can test your batteries and also test your battery charger. just ask for a salesman that has a battery tester and a vom [volt, ohm, milli amp meter] also called a multi meter. The vom will test your charger and came also test your batteries, but most salesmen dont know enough about the vom to use it as a battery tester .

PS a battery tester is just a vom scaled down for battery testing only, made easy to use for dummies.

Completely dead NAD M15, is there an internal fuse that I can change ?

NAD M15

Problem : Dead

Possible solution : Check for Power Supply

How to Test a Transformer: 7 steps - wikiHow

If these has been done,

• Check amp power supply and low voltage regulators

These includes fuses ( many of them )

Tech Center tells you how to use a multimeter .

• There could be other electronic components but try on them first.

If the torroidal transformer is OK , then it could be a problem on the

Circuit boards.

There could be a shorted components somewhere.

Smoking and electrical smell

OOPS!
Sounds bad!
Remove the power plug & remove the lid!
Remember microwaves are deadly! Never touch! use your eyes only!
Put a 1/2 cup of water in & start. Look if you can see where the smoke comes from. If there is some arching somehhere, you may unplug it & leave it for 1/2 an hour to get rid of lethal high voltages. There may be carbon black at the arching site. You may clean it and if you see any paint damage, cover it with a piece of duck tape. Then try again.
If the smoke comes from the transformer, a square heavy iron box, dump the microvawe.
They are cheaper than the combined cost of the transformer & the labour!

Fan on my big buddy heater just stopped working changed batteries still not working?tried the switch nothing .i only have radiant heat.

I would first check the wiring connections to fan and get a multi meter , set on 12 volts dc and see if fan motor has 12 vdc input voltage.
Too cheap to buy a voltage tester at wal mart ot harbor frieght, you can use a 12 volt bulb and socket, if you already have one. Remove fan wires & hook up 12 volt light bulb & if it lights, you got the juice. Carefull, dont let live wires touch because you short out $26.00 big buddy fan transformer. work with fan transformer unplugged from wall and dont plug in until you sure no wires touch.
use electrical or duct tape. electrical tape better.

otherwise, just buy the multi meter, they only $8.00 to $10.00
read & understand instructions, before you try to use it. otherwise, you could burn out your new meter.

well worth owning &
learning to use multi meter. I use it thousands of times.

if fan motor has juice but wont run, check fan shaft to see if it turns freely or scrapes or is stuck. oil fan motor bearings ,change the brushes.
make sure that the fan blades are not touching the fan housing and can turn freely.
if it still dont work, buy new fan motor.
if no juice at fan motor, check mr heater switch with the power off, unplug transformer from the wall or remove batteries.,
and use the ohm meter setting of the multi- meter to test for continuity of the switch when the switch is in the on position.
power must be off when using the ohm setting of a multimeter.
if power is on & using the ohm setting of the multi meter, you will blow out the multimeter. The ohm setting uses a 1.5 volt dc battery inside the multimeter to test for a compleated circuit.
so, 12volts dc would blow it out on ohms setting.
TESTING FOR OUTPUT OF FAN TRANSFORMER OR BATERY PACK.
If the switch is good, reinstall it on mr.heater and test the output of the transformer or battery compartment using the 20 volt dc scale of the multi meter. the voltage scale you select ,must be higher than the voltage you expect to find ,in order to avoid damage to the multi meter.
observe polarity, positive to red and negative to black.

the dc voltmeter setting is totally polarity sensitive and a reversed hook up could blow out the meter.
multi meter means it can read ac volts, dc volts, ohms and dc amps. Read and understand the included instructions before using a multi meter
a good single battery in new condition reads 1.62volts dc
1.5 vdc is almost dead, a good used battery reads 1.58 to 1.6 vdc
below 1.58 vdc is weak battery and 1.48 vdc is usually totally dead, but may be enough for momentary usage under 1 minute.

I was playing a cd and it just stopped. The lights went out, no power, no nothing. Seems to be dead...

There's a line fuse for these sets inside the radio on a printed circuit board. NOTE: for your safety, disconnect the radio from its power source before you open the case and poke around inside. The best way to check the fuse is with an ohm meter, but you can probably check it visually using a strong flashlight. There should be a wire filament running the length of the fuse. If it's intact, so is the fuse. If it's broken or not visible at all, the fuse is "blown" and needs to be replaced. If the fuse checks out ok, the power transformer is likely bad -- a problem that these sets are notorious for. Bose will charge you $100 for the transformer repair (unless the set is still under warranty), and having it done is strictly a matter of personal choice. My choice would be to sell the Bose on eBay as a "tech special" and pick up one of the newer HD radios. They offer much better sound at a much lower price.

Stopped working

I had a similar problem with a jvc 8040. when I replaced the fuse it became very obvious that the b1560 output on the center channel was blown (smoke and sparks, always a dead giveaway). I haven't fixed the center channel yet but simply unplugged the center channel board and removed it from the unit. Now everything works fine except of course the center channel. Pre outs still operate just fine so a slave amp could be used for center channel power, or you could just go and buy a marantz amp; I did and then I realized that I was lucky that the old jvc quit.
