Question about RCA P61939 61" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

TV in permanent zoom

My Tv seems to be stuck in Zoom, but it does not have a zoom feature. The images look bigger on my screen. Components (DVD, VCR SAT) look the same way (ZOOM) when played.

Is there a special way that this works? I tried those keys on my remote and the picture does not change.

I would reset your picture settings and verify the TV box(cable SAt, etc) is sending the right formatted image. Make sure its not letterbox or 'zoom' for instance.

Look to see if set on the remote has a ZOOM or aspect button--model indicated here should not have that feature but others do, also look for that on the remote if a cable or sat box is being used.

It sounds like you have the Zoom feature in the wrong mode. There should be several levels of zoom that you can cycle through with your remote. These were designed so that you can fill a 16:9 aspect screen with a 4:3 picture if you want to. You also may have the Auto Format feature turned on. Go into settings and check that first. It sounds like you should be set on 16:9. Sometimes the right and left arrow keys on the remote will cycle through the various formats.

How do we get the picture back to normal? The picture seems to be stuck in a zoom mode. The wide button does not fix this.

its probably a zoom setting on your cable or sat box.

sat - push the format button at the top or bottom of the remote to switch modes

cable -
go in to the cablebox menu, go to video settings, make sure its set to 1080i and 480i for 4:3 over ride, not stretch or zoom

well if you cannot ZOOM it from the screen settings in menu then I suspect your flyback transformer or the transistor that controls screen width and convergence is faulty.

Ty using the zoom settings on the TV or the dvd player, also check the inputs by testing the tv with free to air or another input to determine if its the tv or the dvd player. Good Luck.

It sounds like you may have the zoom mode enabled on the TV source. A lot of HDTVs have settings for how different modes like 4:3 format source video is displayed such as Normal, Full, Wide, Zoom and Wide Zoom. Each signal input may have a different display mode and that is why DVDs look ok and TV does not. Not all TVs have that feature but most of the ones that I have dealt with do.
It may also be a screen centre adjustment in the cable box or satellite receiver.

I hope I was able to give you a viable solution.

Cheers

NORMAL OPTION GONE

the cable remote has a zoom feature in the settings. the zoom setting got turned on somehow. This feature overrides the picture size settings on the tv.
so, not a tv problem at all, but easily missed.
