I have e 2007 Toshiba Lapotop not even a yr old. I was on the internet andf suddenly it froze. I waited about 5 to 10 minutes to see if it was working again and it wasn't, so i turned it off, since i couldn't do anything like shutting down. Five minutes later i turned it back on and it wouldn't even let me log in. The whole screen was black and showed writing in white saying " ethernet failure" or " media testy failure". People say that it is the hard drive, and others that it can be a virus. Can you help?

Compaq 2100... Looking at it for a friend. First issue was the power supply over heating. Melted the last one, so he got a new power cord. Still getting real hot. Suggested he have the jack port looked at. The next day he calls after a night of running the thing for hours and says it will not boot and just gives the media test faliure ck cable. So I have attemped to switch the boot order. didnt help, also tried deleting the LAN option, it wont let me. Lost for options here. Any assistance would be appreciated.

Not always the Hard drive, boot into the bios setup utility and de-select network bootfrom the boot options. If it tries to network boot first you will always get that failure.

I keep getting this message, and after my Toshiba Satellite boots up I get this magenta and blue lines all over my screen before the computer stops working. I thought it might be overheating so I bought a chill pad and it still had the same problem. I removed the battery and left on on AC power, nothing bad has happened yet. Should I replace the battery with a new one?

Pxe-e61: media test failure, check cable

The error PXE-E61: Media test failure usually means the hard disk has failed or the hard disk needs re-seating or the disk controller is faulty. First - re-seat the hard disk and reboot the computer. If the computer does not boot up then reboot and go into the BIOS configuration to see if the BIOS detects the hard drive. If it doesn't detect the hard drive then it could be faulty. Next - to check if the hard drive is faulty, remove the hard drive and insert it into an USB hard drive adapter and connect it to a working computer's USB port. If this computer cannot see it as an USB mass storage device and you cannot open the various folders and files on this drive, then this confirms the hard drive is faulty. Then the hard drive needs to be replaced in the computer/laptop, Windows installed and the computer or laptop's device drivers plus your programs etc. to get a functioning computer/laptop again.

The system is not finding any bootable media (Hard Drive) and is attempting to boot via the network card (PXE Boot) the error message is saying that there is not PXE network to boot from and it is exiting the process.
Generally, this is caused by a hard Drive failure. Reseat the drive and or drive connections and see if the system will find the hard drive.

Armada E500 PC Notebook: pxe-e61 media test failure, check cable. Turn...

This is often caused by either an incorrect setting in BIOS (usually the boot order) or a bad boot device, such as a bad hard disk.
Go into the BIOS and make sure the boot order is as follows: 1 CD-ROM; 2 Hard Disk; all the other disabled. Once you are sure of that try to boot again; if it's the same then the hard disk has died. If you have on it data that you can't lose boot from a Linux Live-CD like http://pclinuxos.com/ and recover what you can (copy them to a USB stick).
Replace the hd and reinstall.

Wile I am trying to boot it up it goes in to a loop

Hello.

That error message usually refers to a hard disk failure. Your hard disk cable could be loose or faulty. Or, your hard drive would need to be replaced.

I'd suggest to check the cable and run your system's hardware diagnostics (often F2 or F12) when your system boots.

Hope this helps.

I have a message that says , error message: PXE Media test failure chek cable

PXE or Pixie errors occur when the system tried to boot to the network connection and failed. This error usually occurs when the hard drive fails. If your system does boot to windows and you are just getting the error, then you can change the network card setting in BIOS to turn PXE boot off.
If the error occurs and the system doesn't boot to the hard drive, then the hard drive has most likely failed.

PXE-E61 Media Test Failure Check Cable on compaq presario 2100

A PXE-61 error message is most likely a faulty hard disk.
Try reseating the hard drive first and if you still get this error message again then you need to replace the hard disk.
To boot up with the CD you maybe able to press the F12 function key when you power up the laptop, this will bring up the a menu option to select an alternate boot device. If this option is not available then go into the BIOS configuration and change the bootup order and make the CD as the first boot device and the hard disk as the second device. You can can it back later.
