Question about Linksys WUSB54GC 802.11g/b Wireless Adapter
Need help with installing linksys wireless connection tool
I am trying to install a WUSB54GC wireless adapter on a XPS400 dell computer. I have windows XP Home Edition service pack 2. Software install stops at thirty percent and doesn't go any farther. Tried downloading driver from linksys site and had same problem. Tried installing on two other different computers and worked ok. I also called tech. assist and they where no help at all. Very unsatisfied with tech. assist.
The first thing is to do a system restore and give it a try.I am sure the windows updates are causing these errors.Make sure you take a backup of all your important data.Before doing a system restore.
To do a system restore.Go to start>Programs>Accessories>system tools>system restore>
Now try installing the software.
Usually when you update the windows,if there are any burs in their updates they create lots of problem when you install any softwares.

It appears that something is interfering w/ the installation.
My 1st (Routine) Question is:
(01) Do you have *ANY* other information *AT ALL* regarding this issue or your computer?
(A) *ANY* recent issues w/ or changes to your computer or device (hardware or software-related).
Particularly any issues that corresponded w/ or precipitated the onset of this issue.
Including hardware, software (including drivers) or OS installations, upgrades, updates, removals, uninstalls, etc.
(B) Research findings on this issue
(C) Things that have been tried to determine or to correct the issue.
(D) Something someone else said, suggested or recommended regarding this issue.
Including info. from the manufacturer; forum posts; articles, etc
I guarantee you, you cannot give us too much information. The more we know about this issue, the faster and more accurately we can get it diagnosed for you. :)
Above is my routine "questionaire". You've already provided us w/ some information that would apply there. (Thank you for that!) If you have anything to add, though, please, do.
(02) Do you have a lot of icons in your System Tray? (over to the lower right on the Task Bar - where the system clock is displayed)
(03) Let's get everything that is not critical to run disabled.
(04) THIS is the 1st thing we want to try. Select your operating system and perform the steps necessary to boot back into your user profile w/ a "Clean Boot".
(05) Then, give installing your new NIC a go again.
(06) Please, post back here w/ your results, questions and any other comments, etc.
