Need help with installing linksys wireless connection tool

I am trying to install a WUSB54GC wireless adapter on a XPS400 dell computer. I have windows XP Home Edition service pack 2. Software install stops at thirty percent and doesn't go any farther. Tried downloading driver from linksys site and had same problem. Tried installing on two other different computers and worked ok. I also called tech. assist and they where no help at all. Very unsatisfied with tech. assist.

Hi,

The first thing is to do a system restore and give it a try.I am sure the windows updates are causing these errors.Make sure you take a backup of all your important data. Before doing a system restore.
To do a system restore.Go to start>Programs>Accessories>system tools>system restore>
Now try installing the software.
Usually when you update the windows,if there are any burs in their updates they create lots of problem when you install any softwares.

Goodluck,
please don't forget to rate the solution.

Hi Truckmantwo

It appears that something is interfering w/ the installation.

My 1st (Routine) Question is:
(01) Do you have *ANY* other information *AT ALL* regarding this issue or your computer?

For example:
(A) *ANY* recent issues w/ or changes to your computer or device (hardware or software-related).
Particularly any issues that corresponded w/ or precipitated the onset of this issue.
Including hardware, software (including drivers) or OS installations, upgrades, updates, removals, uninstalls, etc.
(B) Research findings on this issue
(C) Things that have been tried to determine or to correct the issue.
(D) Something someone else said, suggested or recommended regarding this issue.
Including info. from the manufacturer; forum posts; articles, etc

I guarantee you, you cannot give us too much information. The more we know about this issue, the faster and more accurately we can get it diagnosed for you. :)

Above is my routine "questionaire". You've already provided us w/ some information that would apply there. (Thank you for that!) If you have anything to add, though, please, do.

NEXT:
(02) Do you have a lot of icons in your System Tray? (over to the lower right on the Task Bar - where the system clock is displayed)

(03) Let's get everything that is not critical to run disabled.

(04) THIS is the 1st thing we want to try. Select your operating system and perform the steps necessary to boot back into your user profile w/ a "Clean Boot".

(05) Then, give installing your new NIC a go again.

(06) Please, post back here w/ your results, questions and any other comments, etc.

Thank you,
BJ @:)

    Hello Truckmantwo

How did it go? Did the information and links I (or any of the other experts who contributed) provided you with enable you to resolve your issue w/ your wirless adapter?

I DO hope that is the case. :) If it isn't, please, post back here and we'll continue to assist you.

if your not intrested in a remote control help session then i recommend you extract the drivers out from the package file, to your desktop / driver folder for example

    then open device manager

right click my computer and select manage, then from the left side window select device manager

from there find your adapter. right click properties, driver tab
update driver, and make sure the program look in the driver folder for the device driver.

    That should do it.

also if you want me to remotely fix it for you let me know the session is still open for few moments.

The operating system on your computer is Windows 7 and the adapter is WUSB54GC. You are getting the Error 211 that means the drivers are not installed properly.
Though you have the CD of the adapter, you will need to download the drivers for the adapter from the web site.
Go to www.linksys.com/download , enter the model number of the adapter. select the proper version of the adapter. download the drivers for windows 7.
Now try to install the downloaded drivers. It will work.

Wont install

I have only tried this on Windows XP. If you can connect to the web using a hard line you can get this running. Make sure you have internet. Then plug the wireless adapter into the usb port and when windows ask if it can search the internet say yes. That will install a driver for the wusb54gc. Then windows will manage the device. Linksys only has the option to download the installer as opposed to just the driver. What a pain when the installer doesn't work.
