F3 light comes on the front panel and microwave does not work

Out of the blue this started. It is getting electricity b/c inside light comes on but keypad does not work and mic doesn't come on. We did lose power for a short while the other day but the mic worked for a day or so before this started. GE said to try to reboot it - we have and it doesn;t work. It is spacemaker XL - (manuf. Feb2000) Model# JVM132OWBOO2. Thanks for any help! Maureen

We are having this same problem...F3 and nothing on the key pad works, but the inside light does come on...our microwave is less than 2 years old...we had to replace a similar one shortly after we bought our house because it caught on fire when we had a babysitter....I don't think we'll be buying anymore GE products!!!!!

The F3 light comes on and the technician said that the control panel had broken keys not related to normal wear and tear. It was working fine for the last 8 months then F3 started to flash and the microwave beeps. I am sure it is still under warranty so I will contact GE.

F3 means a shorted keypad.

On this model (assuming it's JVM1320WB02) the repair cost would run about $115 if we do it for you. We regularly repair these for customer nationwide.

If you prefer to do it yourself, you can usually find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here: http://tinyurl.com/gv383

There should also be a "mini-manual" hidden inside the unit behind the control panel, which is very helpful when troubleshooting.

Full details of our service are at http://www.microwavedisplay.com but if you still have questions, please reply to me directly via my site.

We're happy to help and we appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.

Does it do go "dead" while cooking or while setting idle?
When it is "dead":
  • is there any display at all?
  • does the inside light come on when you open the door?
  • is there any beep when you press a pad on the keypad?
What is the full model number from the tag on the unit?
Please post this information in a new help request so we can help you, and at no charge.

Tappan 5030 microwave oven fuse is ok but no lights on keypad come on

see the causes and fix it. God bless you
Touchpad dead If you have a stuck key or non-responsive key, most of the time you will have to replace the keypad for this microwave oven repair. If your keypad is connected to your control board by a flat ribbon wire, try disconnecting it and clean the silver contacts with an ordinary pencil eraser. After cleaning, plug it back in and try it. If it doesn't fix it, replace the keypad unit. Some units actually have keypad tests to confirm your diagnosis of a bad key.If your keypad and control is the same unit, replace that unit. Another note, unlike stove/oven keypads and controls, most microwaves do not have error codes or tests to distinguish whether it is truely the keypad or control. Most of the time, it is the keypad that needs replacing, but a small percentage of the time it can be the control. Check the tech sheet if they can point you to the right part.

GE microwave oven not working

see this causes and fix it. God bless you
No Lights or Power, Unit seems Dead First check is the main fuse of the unit. On countertop units, you will need to take the shell off. The fuse will be close to where the cord comes through into the unit. OTR units, this main fuse is usually behind the control panel or possibly behind the vent. Usually the fuse is obvious if blown, otherwise test with an OHM meter, if open, replace fuse.
Some brands will also have a thermal cut-off fuse in the incoming voltage line to the control board. Older Maytags and Samsungs have this fuse in it. This thermostat looking fuse is usually above the oven cavity somewhere under the outside shell. Sometimes you can get to it through the vent of OTR models. Test with an OHM meter, replace if open.

Sharp Carousel Microwave - R1481 keypad doesn't work

No! I'am afraid not, the problem is in the keypad control board, the whole assembly must be replaced, the part alone will cost around $100.00 or more depending on make and model.

The problem is more than likely in the microprocessor control board, sometimes a bad relay, or poor solder points.

F3 code

An F3 error code indicates that the keypad for the control panel is bad or has a short. This will cause the microwave to beep continuously after the set clock message appears.
On many models of microwave oven means a problem with the touch panel, (tact switches).

Replace the switch panel to fix the fault.

Hope this helps.

Hi,

Press the "Off/Clear' button to cancel anything on the display, and reset the microwave. This is a soft reset and will simply get you out of any program you have started. Press it when the cooking complete reminder appears on the display.
Perform a hard reset. Pull the plug out of the wall power supply, and wait a moment. Plug the microwave back into the wall power supply to reset any anomalies with the microwave's memory. You will need to reset the time of day if you perform a hard reset.
Reset the time of day. Press the "Clock" button, and turn the dial to set the hours. Press the dial to enter. Follow the same procedure for the minutes and a.m. or p.m. Press the "Start" button to start the clock. This should help fix the problem.
