I can only view some unlocked books from the CD. How can I get them all copied on my hard drive?

Hook your kindle fire to your computer. When the auto play window appears click on "view files". When your kindle hard drive files appear then look for the books file on your kindle. Click on the books folder then copy and paste them on your desktop then unplug your kindle. Plug your wife's kindle in then do the same to open her books folder then copy and paste the books from your desktop into her book folder.

Yes, you can view the content of your hard drive by going to Windows Explorer, or My Computer. You can launch Windows Explorer by pressing the Win key (has the Windows logo, between the CTRL and ALT buttons, bottom left side of your keyboard) and the E-key, so that's Win+E keys pressed together. Once Explorer opens just click on the hard drive's icon from the left side of the new window, it should be labeled MyBook.

This is by design. Western Digital and other manufacturers who offer encryption(locking) do this to prevent others from accessing your data without your permission.

If you wish to format the drive, you will have to unlock it, copy the files off to another drive or computer then reformat and copy the files back.

Unfortunately they do not have an option to unlock permanently without formatting.

I would suggest copying the data to your My Book as an interim step before copying to the second drive. Copying directly from one removable media device to another will necessarily move the data to your computer temporarily anyway, so there is no disadvantage to simply using your My Book as a middleman in the process.

you need to scan your external hard drive for bad sectors problems, you can use winpe mini cd, its a live cd that have hirens boot disk inside it as well as a preinstalled windows eviorment that will give you access to many tools and softwares...download it , burn it to disk and boot it.....

the idea is when you was copying files, some read errors occured that crashed the system, and whene the system crashed, bad sectors/clusters appears, and they need to be scaned and fixed.

just copy all files from the cd into 1 folder, you don't need to copy it on external hard, you can copy it on local hdd. but you can if you want it. find the setup.exe file copyed from the cd and run it.

If you have reinstalled the operating system from scratch there is no simple way of getting your photos and videos back. Because part of the re-installion is to format your hard drive. The only possible way would be to send your hard drive away to a hard drive recovery company but this is very expensive and can cost many hundreds of pounds even if they cant recover it.
As for copying to a cd from your pc, you will need some software which most of the time comes free with your pc or cd drive. can you remember what software you used to use? the most common ones are call Nero or Roxio. There are many more though.
If you just want to copy them as they are onto a CD if you open up the CD drive in My computer and add the files to that folder then click File and then 'Write these files to disc' this may also work.

When you plug the drive into your computer it should come up as a new drive letter (drive E: for example). To back up files right click onto the files that you want to backup and left click onto copy then open the drive letter for the my book and right click and left click onto paste. this should copy any files that you would like to back up to the I book to restore simply reverse the process.

ok...you are connect via usb? when using limewire, window media or itunes,,,,go to options on all them and change the directory where you like to store and retrieve files from...now for the files that you already have on the primary hard drive....go to my computer..you see both drives internal (is your c) and the external is ?) find the music on the c drive ..open it..cut & paste (or click & drag) to the new drive ....to copy this music onto your ipod...make sure you have the latest itunes version (WWW.APPLE.COM) once you have this on the desktop let it scan for all the music on pc....now plug ipod to pc...20-30 seconds your ipod will show up on itunes...look on the bottom of itunes left side (u see the ur ipod)...look up and click on the music folder on pc drive and all the music should now be showing too...click on that same folder drag down to the ipods music folder.......let it load up...it might take awile depending on how much you got .....not never ever pull ipod out always eject the ipod .......then unplug it............................
