Have you checked your phone card on the back of your computer to make sure it is plugged in securely? Unplug it and plug it back in behind the computer and on the wall jack and try again.

Try reinstalling the driver for your modem. If you have the installation disk, put it in your cd rom and follow the onscreen instructions. Choose to replace the current version of the driver.

If you do not have the installation disk, I will need the make and model of your modem card.

Wizard wont create a dialup connection using vista i have updated the modem drivers and the modem is in my device manager

Hi
Follow these instructions to create a dial-up connection on your computer. Then you can get on the Internet to receive/send email and browse the web.

From the Start menu, click on Connect To
Click on Set up a connection or network
Click Set up a dial-up connection
Click Next. Enter the required information for the connection:
Dial-up phone number: 513-520-1135
User Name: (the NCF accountID that was assigned to you)
Password: (the password chosen by you when you registered)
Remember this password(check this box)
Connection Name:NCF Internet - Libertel
Allow other people to see this connection: Check this if you want this connection for all users on your computer (recommended)
Note: if you have Call Waiting, temporarily disable it for the duration of your NCF connection byusing *70,,613-520-1135 as the phone number.
*The NCF dialup phone number is in area code 613 in Ottawa. Please note that long distance charges may apply to modems outside of your local calling area.

Click Connect to create and save this connection.
You have successfully created a Dial-up Connection in Windows Vista.

To connect to the NCF using the connection you have now created, follow these steps:
  1. Click on Start, and then Connect To.
  2. Left click on the NCF Internet - Libertel dialup-up connection and select Connect at the bottom.
  3. The Dial-up windows will come up. Simply click on Dial and your computer will connect to the NCF

I am on broadband. I have a dial-up account for when away. Dial-up is set to dial only when network not found - and has been this way for many months without any problem. Broadband working no prob but now...

One thing that could be possible is there is a program running that could be requesting information from the internet and rather than using the broadband it attempts to access with dial-up. One quick fix would be to go to Internet options and under the "Connections" tab uncheck the box that states Dial whenever..... and check the box that states Never dial a connection. I would use this setting when you use your broadband and when you are away traveling you can go back and check the box to Dial whenever.....

Good Luck

Won't connect to the Internet

If you are using a dialup connection, the ethernet connection would not have anything to do with your problem. Be sure the cable is plugged into the line socket. Take a repular phone and plug it into the telephone socket on the computer and see if you get a dial tone. Be sure you have entered the number correctly including a 1 and area code if required. You may want to call the number your computer is trying to call to see if you hear modem tones ( to be sure the number is correct). If all that is in order, your friends are probably right and your modem is bad. It may be covered under warranty.
