It sounds like you might have a hardware failure on your camera. The viewfinder and the LCD are connected to the same circuitry and if there is a failure there, you will not be able to see what you are taping. The reazon you can still view any recorded program is because the playback circuitry is functional.
I would say that in some cases a loose wire or connector could be causing this failure but it could a solid hardware failure.
If you have some basic electronics knowledge, you might try to open the camera yourself and check for any loose wire or connections.

Try removeing the battery and then trying again,

The device might need a reset

but it sounds like a hardware side problem witch would need to get repaired.

if you still have warranty then that should save you.
if you dont have warranty id recommend you contact your dealer, or a local professional, there is a repair service finder in the front page of fixya under the top experts.

When in video recording mode LCD screen and viewfinder are black when the lens cap is off.

It could one of a few problems:

1. The viewfinder is pulled out and "PRIORITY" is set to "FINDER".

Push the viewfinder back in or set "PRIORITY" to "LCD".

2. The LCD monitor's brightness setting is too dark.

Adjust the brightness of the LCD monitor.

3. If the monitor is tilted upward 180 degrees, open the monitor fully.

The problem i m having with my camcorder is when i want to record film screen goes blank but i can watch my previous recorded videos

Look in the view finder when recording instead of the screen. if you see the image there then the unit is probably set to look through there. Many of the new units dont' have a full view finder to lens item they actually have a small lcd screen inside the view finder. Check your options for recording.

Also if the view finder is tilted you need to close that before usign the lcd.

The image will not appear simultaneously on the LCD

monitor and the viewfinder. It will appear in the

viewfinder when the LCD monitor is in the lock position,

and it will appear on the LCD monitor when fully
extended.

D80 Monitor does not function as view finder.

To be able to do what you want, your camera would have to have a feature called "live view"....yours does not.

LCD on - view image prior to taking photo

The feature you are referring to is called "Live View mode".

This is NOT available on the Nikon D80, and was only introduced on the D90, which is available now.

Live View mode allows you to use the LCD screen as your view finder instead of using the eyepiece, but unfortunately, this feature is not available in your model.

No video

In camera mode if you look through the lens and have a black picture with the message lens cap on and you see that the iris is opening up and there are no bad connections to the ccd then the imager is suspect. Your snowy playback picture problem may just require a clearing however.
