Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

Battery Bought the computer a week ago, installed battery, and have been using it plugged into the wall outlet continuously since. Couple times now I've gotten a message saying that the battery was almost used up and that I should plug into an electrical source. Once it actually shut down. It started back up again but wondering if I have something faulty with either the battery or the electric cord or ?? And, should I be bringing it back to the store since I only have two weeks before having to send to the manufacturer?

F-8 is the key, Try to "cold start" the computer, meaning remove the power plug from wall outlet or uplug from computer, remove battery, now replace battery and plug computer into wall outlet. Push the on button while "TAPPING" the F-8 key repeatedly Tap, tap, tap, until you hear a beep or it load the black menu with safe mode options. IF THAT DOES NOT WORK: shut down the laptop, remove AC supply, remove battery. Plug the AC power back in,DO NOT INSTALL BATTERY, Start the machine, without battery installed, and tap F-8 repeatedly. If it still fails, PULL THE PLUG OUT OF THE WALL OUTLET WHILE THE COMPUTER IS STILL RUNNING. NOW PLUG THE LAPTOP BACK INTO THE WALL AND START, THAT SHOULD TAKE YOU TO A BLACK PAGE WITH WHITE SCRIPT WITH OPTIONS YOU ARE LOOKING FOR.

Monitor flickers black and comes back on...I am stumped...

userunnown,

Probably shouldn't have posted about the voltage thing. Power is checked with any wall outlet, and a multimeter set to AC Voltage. Or using a voltage tester. Pardon me if I overstep my bounds, but I do Not recommend you try this procedure. No matter WHAT, I wish you to be safe.

{Electrician? Minimum charge of 1 hour (Usually), even if it takes 4 minutes. May be additional charges also. In my area? Average is around $42 an hour. If we were 'talking' about the Low DC Voltages your Power Supply puts out, I would have no problem, (And have), advising you }

Now 'looking' at the total picture in front of us, it would seem the common 'denominator' is the SSD harddrive. Wouldn't you agree?

How to know? Try using a SATA harddrive.
(Feel foolish posting that to YOU, sheesh! )

My Philips 190SW was powered off for a week. When I powered it back up it fails to operate properly. It will show an image for about 1 second and then go black. Every time I power it off/on I get another 1...

you have to take the moniter apart(the front popc off with clips and one philips screw in the back behind the stand..Remember where everything goes as you rip it apart and access the power supply..You will see a capacitor 1000uf 25 volts in the middle of the board.Chances if you look at it the top is puffed up and leaking..Pick up one for a buck or so and swap it out and you should be fine..I know this for I did it 20 mins ago and using it as I type this...Hope this helps

Dell 9400 wont show AC power icon

If the computer is connected to an electrical outlet, the about10.jpg light operates as follows:
  • Solid green: The battery is charging.

  • Flashing green: The battery is almost fully charged.

If the computer is running on a battery, the about41.jpg light operates as follows:
  • Off: The battery is adequately charged (or the computer is turned off).

  • Flashing orange: The battery charge is low.

  • Solid orange: The battery charge is critically low.
Looks like the AC adaptor is faulty.

Dell Latitude 500 - Battery vs Power Supply Problem

As far as which adapter to use, either should work fine. The 90 watt will run cooler. I have seen the 65 watt go up in smoke when being used on a continuous basis.
As to the battery not charging, unfortunately, it sounds like you may have a problem with the internal power supply. The orange light is showing that the battery is discharged. If this light doesn't turn green after the laptop has been plugged in for a couple of hours, you are not getting the battery charged. Power the laptop down, remove the battery. Check the contacts on both the battery and laptop battery connector for any foreign material or "Gunk" and for any bent or broken contacts.
Hope this helps!
