Question about Dell Inspiron 8200 Notebook
I keep getting an error message that says no bootable devices. press f1 to
reboot or f2 for setup utility. please help.
It happens when your laptop does not recognize the hard drive, look in bios as suggested it will say hard drive not found. Sometimes taking hard drive out (remove power and battery 1st) and putting it back in works; otherwise, do os complete reinstall, delete old partition and install windows. Of course you will have to have a good hard drive and boot from cdrom as suggested by prior person-

Hi CYRINAH, please make sure you did not leave a CD in your cdrom drive. Go ahead and press F2. This will take you into the notebooks main bios menu. (If you have never been in a bios before, seek guidance from you're manual) or help from a friend who know how to move about in a bios. To find out how to move around in you're bios, instructions are shown at the bottom of the menu.
At the main menu in the bios you will find you're time settings, also you will see reference to you're cdrom (It will be listed & have a name), you should also see you're hard drive, again it will show it's name. If you do not see you're hard drive in the list than you're Primary Master hard drive may be defective. If you do see the Primary Master hard drive listed we need to re-check the boot order. Find, the title, " Boot" within your bios.
The boot order should be,
1st boot device = CDROM drive. (Name of cdrom)
2nd boot device = Hard drive. (Name of hard drive)
If this is not the case (correct it). Save you're changes & exit the bios. If there is no referance to you're hard drive, it may be defective.
If you're Dell still gives you the same error message as before. Than load either you're restore CD or you're Windows CD into your cdrom drive. Re-start the notebook. Allow the notebook to boot to the restore cd or windows cd. As the Dell boots you should see "To load from the CD press any key...."
" Do press any key". Windows or the restore CD should begin to load. You should have the option to re-install windows, (over writing you're current windows). Choose that option - reinstall.
(If windows or the restore CD does not see you're primary hard disk drive), than again it may be defective & you will need to replace it with a new drive. However the hard disk drive may be able to live again. You will need the drive's name written on a sticker on the drive. Once you find the name & serial number you can go to the drive's Mfg's web site & download software to creat a bootable CD with tools utilitys that you burn to a cd drive. This Mfg's software will test & possibly repair the drive allowing you to re-install windows or you're restore cd. Below is the link to you're Dell Inspiron 8200 PC Notebook driver software.
To download you're manual, click Manual listed on the left of the page. Bios information found on pg. 119
To find hard drive go to pg. 108
Good Luck! & Take your time.

Sounds like the hard drive failed. If you have any super-important files on there, your local GeekSquad should be able to point you in the right direction to recover those items.
