My van keeps shutting down right after. The vehicle will start 20 times then with no warning it will start then shut off in two seconds then not start again until the next day. It doesn't happen every time, at first it was every few months but now it’s once or twice a week. Sometimes it takes an hour or let it sit overnight before it will start again. It has been checked by several mechanics and even Pep boys they have changed a few parts but none of them solved the problem, no one seems to know what is causing it. I am a mom of 4 and every time this happens we are stranded wherever and whenever it decides to not turn on and have to find a way to get home. Does any one have a solution or have been having the same problem?

There is 4 main things that could cause this.... 1. fuel pump heating up and stopping untill it cools off.... 2. the crank position sensor could heat up and not send the computer the propper signals and work once cooled off.... 3. coil pack same as the other 2 and 4. the main computer could be failing.

the crank position is the least expensive
the coil packs are a common issue out of those V6s
the fuel pump can be checked by spraying starter fluid in the intake when the van doesnt want to start and see if that makes it start.
the computer should be able to be diag. by the dealer but is very expensive and has to be a exact match software wise and year make model and package.

Shuts down going down the road shuts off completely

vehicle shuts down while driving down road and does not start backup for at least 20 minutes, could be a bad crank sensor. if bad it will start and run fine, but it will keep shutting down until fixed.

1999 4.0L Jeep Grand Cherokee shuts down after 20-30 minutes.

I'd suggest the ignition control module, however I'd have a certified mechanic check it out just in case...

The van starts right up but shuts right back off

you might have a regular key instead of a microchip key. the micro chip key sends the signal to the computer. If you have a regular key it will start and a couple of seconds it will shut off and do it over and over again.
