Question about Televison & Video

1 Answer

Sony Wega CRT TV. 3yrs old. Bought 2nd hand recently, told it was in good condition and it was for a while. Starting showing green/blue tinted screen (looked like Red colour was failing) intermittendtly after a few days. More recently the image has started rolling and over the last few days this has become quite consistent. Can this easily be fixed?

Its not an easy job, but needs lot of technical knowledge as you have to open up the set and do the tinkering work!
Perhaps you should take a look here
And this is concerned only with the mising color.

THe roll over problem may also mostly be due to failing picture tube. You cant handle on your ow.. You should seek assistance from a technician for sure.

I have a sony wega and the picyure is clear but has a green tint what could that be

There are several possibilities in that area. The Picture Tube (CRT) is driven by three different video signals. One presents the Red, one the Blue and one Green. All other colors are derived from a mixture of those three colors. The greenish tint could be a sign that the green gun is being over driven or the Red and the Blue are less than adequate to create a normal picture. Sorry to say this but the most common problem that causes that symptom is the emission in the "gun" assembly inside the picture tube is declining with age and hours of operation. Sony Picture tubes are typically good for around 40,000 hours of use. I don't recommend replacing the picture tube. If the set is more than 5 years old I would suggest that you start looking for a new set.

I know this is bad news but I am just telling what I know the most likely scenario that I have seen in 35 years of TV service.

The picture has a green tint to it on all channels

The color signal consists of Red, Green and Blue. Those three colors, at various degrees, make all the other colors on your screen.

If you have a BRIGHT green screen it's best you don't operate your set.
If it's just tinted green then there is a problem on the CRT (Cathode Ray Tube) drive board. Do check your "tint" setting and see if someone misadjusted it. If that isn't it then you need to have your set on an electronics bench and get an estimate for repair.

Can damp conditions cause TV to go out

If you have too much dampness, and or mold inside the set on the circuit boards, most likely there is damage.
The cost of servicing may be too expensive in consideration of the value of the set.

Yellow tint

The LCD green or blue inside the optical block is defective now. the optical block is the core of the tv (is the projector inside the unit "expensive"). make sure calling to Sony company and try to see in your particular serial # is covered under an extended warranty for this particular set. or at least ask them where you can get a good autorized workshop close to your area.

WEGA 36" : Screen is low contrast and green

Sorry to say, it sounds like a bad picture tube, But could be also the capacitor that filters the screen voltage on the crt drivers. In all my years though, your complaint has been the picture tube. Good Luck.
