Question about Technics SC-DV290 System

1 Answer

System stops playing

I have a technics sc-dv290. After 2 to 3 hours of continuous play, the system stops playing for no reason. I could be using any mode. When the system is turned off, then restarted, it will work for a couple of minutes, then cut off again. This has spoiled a few parties, as all our friends go home!!
Please help.

Thanks for the speedy reply! However, the system is not in a cabinet, it sits on a table.

Coincidently the fault happened again at the weekend. After about 2 hours of continuous play, the system refused to work. I checked the back, and sure enough the stereo tuner/ amplifier seemed to be overheating. Does anyone have a solution, or is it back to the supplier?

Hi Big Belchie

Sounds a bit like it is overheating. It is in a cabinet? Check that cooling vents on top and sides of the unit are not getting obstructed. hehehe sometimes parties are responsible for those piles of cd covers that block off the vents. How hot does it feel when it stops working?

regards
Graeme

hhmmmm so you agree with me that is is overheating, and confirmed that by actually checking the receiver section. I am a little bewildered as to why my solution prompted you to give me a "thanks for trying" rating generally reserved for solutions that are wrong or "not right" . My overall expert rating goes down with that sort of rating. Hoping you may reconsider that for me, I would appreciate it greatly.

Over heating can be caused by a number of things. I take it(assuming as you did not mention it) that all the vents are clear of obstruction. changing the position of the components in the stack may help. Get the amp section to the top, where it can get the most air around it. If it has an fan to force air through the amp section, check that it is not clagged up with dust, or that the vent to it is also clear(use a paint brush to dust it out). Be sure to leave about 10cm behind the unit also to allow for cool air to convect by.

If it still shuts down AND it is still under warranty, then YES return it to the supplier for replacement. It may have intermittent solder joints causing the problems.

How do i connect technics turntable model SL-QD33 to technics stereo model SC-DV290 and what do i need to switch to on stereo to play records.

Have a look on the back input panel of the sc-dv290. Check for a "PHONO" input. If there is no phono input it will not play turntable. If there is: then plug it the turntable in and switch the SC-DV290 to PHONO mode.
Another way would be to purchase a "phono preamplifier" from ebay: Hook the turntable into the phono preamplifier, and the preamplifer into the SC-DV290 AUX input.

you most definately have a faulty spindle motor. this is very common on technics and panasonic dvd players. i've come across this fault on numerous occasions and after replacing the motor, all worked as it should. hope this helps?

Hi,

I think your dvd is set to a different region. This might help:
1. Insert disk
2.Wait for 'no play'message
3.Immediately press stop
4.It wi go to chapter review automatically in about 5seconds time u should be able to press play and start the movie

Hope this helps

i once had a panasonic dvd player which displayed the same code H02 and used the same drive mechanism as your player. this turned out to be a worn spindle motor and once replaced, all worked fine. you may well have the same fault. hope this helps?
