Open the controller and see if there is any cut or damage to the wire connecting to the right one's socket, that should be t problem as you have tried changing the input cable.

I connected some Altec Lansing speakers to my all in one (dell) desktop and now the built-in speakers don't want to work when i disconnect the Altec Lansing speakers !!

Your audio drivers may not be detecting the removal of the audio jack. First make sure the jack is completely removed from the computer.
Next, try a reboot.
Then go to the system tray, near the clock, and right click the speaker icon (you may need to expand the tray by clicking the icon.) Select "Control Panel" (the name may change depending on your audio card manufacturer) and then look for the "Jack Detection" option, it is usually a checkbox. Make sure it's checked, or if it is, uncheck it and then re-check it.

What's a good replacement for Dell Dimension 4700 speakers (AS500PA) that crackle too much to turn on?

The best replacement would be a Mac. They are easy to use, take up less space than that big tower, have a beautiful screen, and only one cable, (if you use a wireless mouse and keyboard). Not to mention, with the new operating system, Snow Leopard, you can run Windows with the help of Boot Camp!

And how much are those old Windows headaches worth to you? Believe me, I had PCs for over 20 years, and just converted to the Mac. It's like night and day. No more Windows headaches, my computer is actually fun again!

My Altec lansing multi media ada 745 just stopped working all of a sudden. It doesn't work for all media ie. ipod, tv, computer. We can hardly hear it. I changed the fuse but it still doesn't work. Wh

unplug the power from the speakers, reseat the all the connections for the satellite speakers, ensure the power switch on both the subwoofer and the Right Front Speaker are in the ON position.

If that doesn't resolve the issue, then you are most likely going to need to replace the speakers, as the fuse is the only serviceable componet.

What a lovely daughter, how very nice of her,

here goes....straight for Mr. Koss

To Operate with AC Adapter
  1. Open battery compartment located at the back of both speakers and remove wires.
  2. Replace battery covers.
  3. Connect DUAL PLUG CONNECTOR on left speaker to right speaker at connection marked "TO LEFT SPEAKER."
  4. Connect remaining wire with 3.5mm plug to headphone jack on your audio source.
  5. Connect AC adapter (not included) to back of left speaker at connector marked "DC 6V." Plug remaining end of AC adapter into wall outlet. Be sure your AC adapter is built with the center pin as ("-") negative. Connect remaining wire with 3.5mm plug to the headphone jack on your audio source.
  6. Turn ON/OFF switch at back of right speaker to "ON."
  7. Set "INPUT SELECTOR" switch to audio source.
  8. Turn on audio source
  9. Adjust sound in the following ways: Turn volume control to desired level; push Bass Boost button located on right speaker to "ON" for added bass; push Treble Boost button on right speaker to "ON" for added treble
  10. Operating a microphone through your speakers require an additional 3.5mm plug to 3.5mm plug cable (included). My Altec Lansing ADA745 speakers have stopped working. I probably downloaded some other software that overrode the Dell speaker installation. How do I reinstall the Altec Lansing ADA745 speakers?

The speakers are probably fine. What you probably need to do is to reinstall the sound drivers on your dell.

You need the model of your dell pc and go to the dell website and find download and install the sound drivers for your system.

The model of your pc will be needed if any more assistance is needed.

Ive just brought my computer and it came with altec lansing serious 100 speakers im not sure how to set them up?

There should be a green color cable (3.5mm in size) coming out of one of the speakers. That cable connects to the green color port in the back of the computer.

If your still having trouble please comment back with the model of the speakers... Altec Lansing Series 100 Model ??? and brand name and model of the computer. If it's not a brand name computer but a generic PC, then the brand name and model of the motherboard.

I have Altec Lansing Speakers. They were working fine Saturday. I just tried to use them for class and now I am not geting any sound. I checked all the wires and they are all plugged in. I am getting no...

There are many models of Altec speakers, which do you have?

Most computer speakers include built-in amplifiers, volume and
tone controls, remote, audio processing, cross over networks...
etc.

These are sophisticated electronics devices, not the passive
speaker boxes of the 1970's

If any of the internal electronics, or even the internal power supply are fried, they will not work.

But don't miss the obvious:

1) Double check not only the cables, but also the audio-card
software settings.

Most new audio cards have programmable inputs and outputs,
some automatically detect what is connected to them.

Make sure that the settings are correct.

2) Make sure that the Audio card is not set for digital output
with analog speakers or vice versa.

3) Check the Windows mixer/volume control, or the mixer applet
that came with your audio card (or motherboard) to make
sure that the audio output is not MUTED or attenuated
anywhere in the audio path.

4) Make sure the Windows Vista DRM is not getting in the way.
(try non-protected audio files)

5) Finally try your speakers on another computer.

6) If the speakers are analog, connect them to the "LINE-OUT"
output of your home stereo to confirm if they are defective.

(This may require an RCA plug to miniature stereo adapter)

7) If the speakers are determined to be dead, phone ALTEC
tech support, insist on speaking to an engineering manager,
complain and make your self sound very important...

They may send you a free replacement.

I have found the ALTEC staff to be exceptionally helpful and
professional. On one occasion, they have acknowledged an
inherent design problem with a particular speaker model,
and sent me a more expensive replacement under warranty.

There are very few companies as GOOD as ALTEC, when it
comes to customer service.
