No Power Absolutely no sign of charging (model has internal lithium). On, off, front (USB) port, rear port - Vista doesn't see it, but more importantly it is not charging. (I guess I'll boot into XP and see what happens. I'll update after that) Thanks

Coby's tech support / cust. serv. was familiar with the "no power" complaint.
Exchanged it - no problems - works great.

Many leads and even board sockets can be purchased at a good electronics store locally of via a company like RS Components.

The iPod USB Charger

The USB cable that came with all iPod has two purposes: to your device to your computer so you can update and add music, and iPod to charge. All iPods have a lithium ion battery stops charging when the battery is full, the total life of your battery is not affected if you leave the iPod is connected to a power source. It usually takes four hours to recharge most iPods.

1. Connect the USB connector into an available high-power USB 2.0 port on your computer. Low-power USB ports, such as those in external keyboards and hubs do not work.

2. Connect the 30-pin connector at the other end of the USB cable 30-pin connector on your iPod. If you charge an iPod shuffle, there is no dock connector port. Instead, use the connector on the other end of USB cable that fits in the headset. Set the iPod down and let it recharge.

3. Unplug the USB cable when the iPod battery indicator is full. If you charge an iPod shuffle, the green light will appear.
My usb in front of the cpu have some problem

Most likely either the USB socket is defective internally, or it has broken off of the circuit board that it is soldered to internally. This usually happens from excessive use. The ports at the rear are plugged in typically once for a long period of time, but front ports get a lot of wear and tear. A repair or replacement is NOT recommended, unless you have experience working with/on electronic circuits.

A quick remedy would be to purchase a USB Extender cable. It has a Type A Male on one end and a Type A Female on the other end. The male would plug into a USB port on the rear of your computer and the female end would be available at the front. If it fails, just change out the extender. Or you could purchase a USB 4-port Expander hub and do the same thing.

Hope this helps.

How do I get the craddle to turn on

It depend of model of your cradle:
If cradle is without charge capability (suits CPT-8000), it get power from USB for internal logic and irda.
Cradles with charging capability ( two charging pin in cradle socket) need a powersupply to power both the charging of CTP-8001 and the internal logic/irda.
The driver need to be installed before connect the cradle to computers USB-port.

Why isnt my ipod charging?

iPod's battery doesn't charge

Several things could keep your iPod's battery from charging. The major causes are listed below in logical order. Check each one to see if it's what's keeping your battery from charging.

Low-powered USB port

iPods that connect to USB ports require a high-power USB port.

Keyboards and some USB hubs will not charge iPod. Connect iPod directly to the computer or to a USB AC power adapter. Click here for more information.

Connect directly to computer

If you connect iPod to something that connects to the computer (like a USB hub or FireWire drive), connect iPod directly to the USB or

FireWire port on the computer.

FireWire port on a Windows PC

The FireWire (IEEE 1394) ports on some Windows-compatible computers may not be powered, and consequently won't charge iPod when you plug it in. Check here to see if the FireWire port on your PC can charge iPod.

Your computer goes to sleep

Your computer can only charge iPod when it's turned on and not asleep. Make sure your computer is on and not set to go to sleep when you want to charge iPod. Tip:

Some Macintosh computers can charge iPod even though they're asleep.
If your sleeping computer doesn't charge iPod, don't worry, just wake it and let iPod charge.

Computer does not acknowledge the usb connection can't find driver on disk Using Vista

Make sure you're plugging the USB cable from the machine intoa USB port in the BACK of your computer, not one of the front ports or a porton a USB hub. The cable and machine need more power than most of those portsprovide, a technical detail that Singer doesn't realize. Good luck!

Can you charge the 1440 using a usb to the computer?

For the software version: In the menu go to "Product Information" you will find it there.

If your GPS receiver has power pin port and a USB port the internal battery cannot be charged using your computer. You must use the supplied vehicle power adapter to charge the receiver's internal battery.

If your GPS receiver only contains a USB port it can be charged by your computer however we recommend using the supplied Vehicle Power Adapter.

Charging the internal battery using your computer may take up to 12 hours. Charging the internal battery using he supplied Pehicle power Adapter takes 4 - 6 hours. The receiver can be powered on or off while charging.

Charging camera

Are you using the front usb ports on your computer? My computer's front usb ports were not able to charge my camera, but the rear usb ports were able to (the charging light should stay on if it's charging correctly). I'm not an expert on this stuff, so maybe there's a power output difference between your frontal and rear usb ports.

Also, on the CD there was a camera connection driver. You might try installing that and see if that makes a difference?

I have an coby mp3 player model num:mp.c7085 i connected it to the pc to chage but it doesn't light up to showit is charging. what can i do?

Some of the computer FRONT usb ports only transfer signals but don't provide power. Try hooking your player to one of the REAR usb ports and see if it charges.

Shows Li-On battery charged when plugged into AC, shuts down when unplugged

Here is a palm article on the battery not holding charge-

My battery loses its charge very quickly

Like all Lithium Ion batteries, the battery in your device will eventually wear out. If you charge your device fully but it loses power after a few hours (or sooner), it may be time to replace the internal battery.

Sounds like you already did this. Do you have someone you know who has the same battery you could try? Or try your battery in their device?

Also this site looks good -

Step #11

You can connect it via USB and let it charge that way a little while, then try charging it normally. It's called trickle charging-

Trickle charging
Some Palm devices have the ability to "trickle charge" from a USB port on a PC or Mac. This means that it receives a very small amount of charging from the USB port, even if it is not connected to its AC charger. If your device is capable of this function, the charging time will be significantly longer for a trickle charge (depending on the power rating of the PC USB port). However, the device may not charge at all on an unpowered USB hub (or for example off off a keyboard).
