check that the evaporator fan is running or for frost covering the back of the freezer. If the freezer has frost at the back it it is a defrost problem. this model probably has a main board on the back. what is the model number and i can help you further.
The main board on the back of the unit has gone bad or in lockout. Try unplugging unit for about 30 seconds. Then plug it back in. If it doesn't start the board is bad. wr55x10942 at about 169.00. Hope this helps. Very common GE problem
It sounds like your defrost control timer is working, but your defrost heater is most likely burnt out. It is a part number
WR51X443
and is located behind the back wall inside the freezer. Turning the refrig off for 24 hours helped melt some of the accumulated frost, but not all. You will have to take that back cover off inside the freezer and melt all the frost with a hair blower, replace the defrost heater and reassemble.
Open the freezer door and look at the back wall. If there is frost on the back wall, you have a defrost problem, which means air cannot circulate over the cooling coils located behind the freezers back wall. You will have to remove the back wall and melt all the frost with a hair blower, then replace the defrost heater. (part number WR51X10055) . This is assuming that the fan by the compressor and the one inside the freezer are working.
Generaly the control board controls everything sometimes you have a bad thermister GE has a help line I beleive it costs 20.00 bucks but you will need a meter and know how to use it and they willl talk you thru the repair .
I guess the first thing i would check is to make sure the control board is getting a proper ground. next i would manually put it in defrost (while it is still frosted) and make sure the heater is glowing red hot. other than that i would have to suspect another bad board?
let me know how it turns out
