Remove the fabric despenser from the top of the agatator, under the despenser is a 1/2 inch bolt, a ratche with a 6 inch extention works well, remove the bolt and the agatator will lift up off the transmission shaft

String caught between the upper and ;ower half of the agitiator

Remove the agitator and clear the string. Agitators can be hard to remove, but they will come off. Usually have a nut under the top cap that holds them down then pushed down onto splines.

Washer was filling but not aggitating,

remove the dispenser in the top of agit . under it is a bolt. remove bolt. it holds it down . if it won't pull by hand then we use a ( agi tamer. this is a split inner tube type/very flat with a split in it . slide under agit and add water and up it comes . 5 min. .. i don't think something is under the agit I belive the trans is failing . but you need to look . . agit needs to be removed to repl trans anyway ..mm

Making an awful ratcheting noise during aggitation and spin cycles

Under the agitator there is a rachet mechanism that works the agitator. If it is stripped, it will skip until the next good tooth.. when it fails entirely the agitater will stop going back and forth. Its nylon and age along with overloading hastens its dearg.. If you can get the parts you can replace it yourself without difficulty. There is a single bolt in the center of the agitator top . Remove and loft agiyator straight up.

Occasionally clothes are catching on the agitator where the corkscrew is attached to the base. When I washed sheer curtains last week some of them caught and snagged. They are ruined. I can't feel...

without a make and model it is hard to say but I would say there must be a small protrution or maybe a cut in the aggitator that is catching them feel around again slow and carefully if you still can't feel anything give the edges of the agitator a slight sand with some very fine sandpaper hopefully this will fix the problem. Make sure your agitator isn't loose on it's mount maybe they are catching under the agitator.

you don't say which model you have. one version uses two belts accesible by just tipping the machine back. Another version you must remove the front panel, and drop the pump and you'll be able to replace the one belt.

Kenmore Elite HE4T Washing Machine Diagnostic Test Didn't complete and clothes aren't spun as dry as in the past I have a Kenmore Elite HE4T washing machine and I noticed that recently it isn't getting all of the clothes completely dry from the final spin cycle. Thus, the dryer has to run through two cycles to get the clothes dry. I did a bunch of research and made sure there weren't any kinks or blockages in the drain lines; and opened up the bottom of the washer and cleaned out the drain cleanout. I found a few pennies, but everything seemed to be working ok. I ran a load and had the bottom open so that I could make sure the motor, drain and belt were all working properly. The drain does get the water out of the washer, so the clothes aren't sitting in water, they just don't seem to be spun as fast or as long as they used to. I always put it on the "extra high" spin setting no matter which type of load I run. So, I found a way to run the diagnostic test on the washer and it went through C0-C5 (the agitation step) and all worked great, until it wouldn't come out of C5 after at least 10 minutes and go thru C6-C8. I had to cancel the diagnostic test and hit the "drain and spin" button to get all of the water back out of the washer. BTW, the "drain and spin" seems to get the clothes a bit drier than when I have it run through the "normal" cycle with the "extra high" spin. If anyone has any other thoughts, I would really appreciate it. This unit is in a small space with the dryer attached so to take it out and do repairs is a pretty big hassle. It has had a new control board and two new fill valves in the 10+ years that I have owned it. Questions I have: 1.should I remove the entire drain pump to make sure there isn't anything lodged in it? 2. could it be the belt slipping slightly and keeping the spin from reaching its 1200 RPMs? 3. Anything else I may be missing???
