Re: how to turn on the wireless radio?
Gateway computers almost always place their wireless switches at the front edge of the unit on the left side. It may be kind of hiding underneath the front of the unit. If there is no switch there, then there may not be any wireless either.

Your wireless command switch is not a physical switch. It should be one of the touch sensitive contacts on the media control bar (right above the keyboard). It should look like a little straight up line with comas coming from the top (the idea being a tower sending out radio waves). You should just be able to touch it with the pad of your finger and activate the wireless which will then light up blue like the other "non" buttons.
Press FN+F5 button together on the keyboard to have the settings for display pops up on the screen. Check if the radio button was turned on both for wireless and bluetooth connection. If the radio button was off, just click ON and that should set the wifi to turned on. Always make sure that the wifi switch was set to on as well.
If this didn't fix the problem, kindly reinstall the wifi adapter driver by downloading the driver from the manufacturer's website. after reinstallation kindly reboot the computer.

There is usually a switch that turns on the wireless card. My Toshiba's switch is a slide switch on the front. Some computers have push button wireless switches at the top of the keyboard. If you still have your manual, refer to it for the location. Look carefully, and you should find it. If you don't have any luck, take it into Best Buy or a computer repair shop, and they can show you where it is.
There is no button on these, there is a setting in the wireless configurator that allows you to enable/disable the radio. Make sure the radio is enabled. Radio throws most people, all it is is the wireless card. The card works on frequency, so therefore is considered a radio, confusing, I know. If the radio is enabled or it still doesn't work after enabling it, you may have a driver glitch, then uninstall the wireless drivers from the device manager, and reboot. The machine will find the wireless and reinstall the drivers. This should get you up and running.
Did you try turning the Radio Button on. I had the same problem for awhile until I realized the 1st Silver button on the Keyboard that turns on the Radio signal. Thats how you get the wireless capatability to work. Try that.
