Hi. Thanks loads for getting back to me. I'm really rubbish with computers and I've tried to look for all this myself but am at a loss!

It's an iStart 2380. I've had a look on the packard bell website and it only gives help for Vista (becasue that's what it came with) but my "friend" nuked it and put on XP. I am really beginning to wish I hadn't listened to him!!!!!

Thanks so much for your help.

The iStart models are usually 4 digits, such as 1369, 1296, 2086, etc.

The correct model number may be right on the front of the tower, or on the back on a label.

Heres the driver for the audio, and the others you may need:

Click on the "driver" tab, and you will see the XP drivers listed along with the Vista drivers.

Also, install the 'chipset' (at the bottom) drivers for XP BEFORE the others..

You may also have to install the XP specific bios files prior to the others.

Sound driver

You can download the sound driver for Dell OptiPlex GX280 PC Desktop by visiting Dell.com.

The sound card present is Analog Devices ADI 198x Integrated Audio. Driver available is for XP and 2000. This may or may not work with Vista or 7 but there is a good chance it will. IF not then you may need to search for custom drivers, call Dell support or move to a better system.

For all other drivers click here.

Sometimes the link may not work, just reply back and i will give you another link.

Windows doesn't recognize my sound card and I can't locate a driver, for it. I don't think the sound card is bad, as it worked before I reformatted my harddrive and added the software.

Install the latest Sound driver from the website.

link: support.dell.com
Click on "Drivers & Downloads",
Enter your "Service Tag",
Locate the right driver, download it.. & Install it.

Hope it works....

Sound Drivers problem in my laptop(XP professional os)

If your machine is a Presario SR2011WM as posted this is the sound driver for your machine under XP.

If you have problems installing the driver or if you posted this under a different model number than your own machine please reply with the exact model number and I'll do further checking for you.

Which drivers used when install vista in compaq Sg2044il

Don't upgrade unless you are planning on installing a new graphics board (VGA). The specs on this PC show that it has an Intel 865G graphics solution. There are no Vista drivers for this chip-set. It is possible that the XP drivers will work but I wouldn't count on it. Probably the same goes for the sound board. Not worth it. Besides that XP is better than Vista anyway. If you want to upgrade, wait for Windows 7 to be released, then take the money you would have spent on this PC and put it towards a new core2 duo or core2 quad. According to the beta testing, Windows 7 will be MUCH better than Vista. I think the release date supposed to be sometime around the middle of 2009? Don't quote me on that. Hope this helped. If so, please remember to rate me. Thanks.

No one can help with the information you have supplied. You will have to do a little research first.

RIGHT click My Computer, select Properties and then click on Device Manager. This will bring up a list of all your Hardware and should show any problems (by displaying a yellow exclamation mark).

Under Sound Devices (?) you will hopefully find your sound card listed (hopefully not as "Unknown Device".

Take note of the name and model numbers, then do a Google search using the following string:

(Brand name) (model number) +driver

This should bring up sites that have a driver for you to download. Be sure to get the XP not the Vista driver.

Download the driver and put it somewhere such as My Documents. Then go back into Device Manager, Right click on the Sound Card and select update driver (you could have tried this first and selecting browse the Internet as one of the solutions - this may find and download a suitable driver which will fix your problem, if not then back to where I was . . . ), when asked about connecting to the Internet select Not at this time. It will then search and should find the driver and install it. If this fails, doe the same again but this time select From a particular location and open up My Documents, highlight the driver and click open.

Good luck.
