Double check the connector inside the PC. There should be 3 wires connected to the CD rom drive.

My emachine cd drive stopped working an i was wondering can it be fixed

1) Computer on open the CD drive tray. Turn the computer off leaving the tray open. Unplug the computer from power.

Use a can of compressed air for computers, and clean the drive out.\
Break the plastic lock tab off of the nozzle, of the can of air, attach the plastic straw to the nozzle.
Aim in a slightly downward fashion as you spray air into the optical drive. (CD drive)

You are trying to clean, dust, dirt, etc. out of the inside of the drive, but are mostly trying to clean the laser optical eye, located towards the bottom of the optical drive.

Allow a few minutes for any propellant that came out to dry, then plug the computer back into power.
The CD drive tray will shut automatically.

CD drive tray will not open, and there is no blinking light on the front of the drive?
Trash can it, buy a new one.

An optical drive is a mechanical device. It's 'Life-span' is rated in hours of usage.
A drive that does not respond with a blinking light is beyond it's Life Cycle.

Buying an optical drive is Much cheaper online, than buying from a large chain store locally, IMHO.

1) One example of a CD/DVD drive that is an IDE unit, (PATA),

Close all open programs

Click on Start, Run, and type regedit and press Enter
Click on the plus signs (+) next to the following folders

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE

SYSTEM

CurrentControlSet

Control

Class

{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

This folder is the DVD/CD-ROM Drive Class Description in the registry. Look for any of the following names in the right hand column.

Upper Filters

Lower Filters

Upper Filters.bak

Lower Filters.bak

If any of the above keys shown in step 4 are listed, right-click on them and choose Delete

After deleting the keys, close the registry editor
Reboot your computer

Open My Computer and check to see if your CD or DVD drives have returned. You may also want to open Device Manager and verify that the yellow exclamation and error code on the CD or DVD drive is gone.
Hope this helps

Optical drive not recognized in Bios

You have either a bad optical drive or optical port. You can still load the OS but you need to make a bootable USB drive and install that way. Or get and use an external USB optical.

also, check in your bios or for the drive settings, it may be set to only accept sata drives or the port may be disabled. some latitudes give the ability to disable or not look at a specific port.

one idea is to check and make sure they are all cds and some not dvd or blue ray. and verify that your rom drive is cd/dvd,also try to load the cd and open my computer and see if it even acknowledges that there is a disk in it.if so just double click te icon for the rom drive and run the cd that way.

Need help instaling photo exploision deluxe 4.0 when i put the dvd in my driver.. it just says .. no **** in driver.. nothing happens!!! help !!

Do other CD work? If yes, you have a bad Photo Explosion CD.
If no, then you have a bad CD/DVD drive. You can get a new one for $30 if this is a desktop pc. If you have a laptop an external dvd drive would be the best option if you don't use the DVD drive very often.

► check for the registry entry h_key local machine -> control -> current control set -> class and check for the registry entry 4D36E965 and under this entry you would find the upper filters and the lower filters and delete the entries restart the computer if this does not work ► check in the device manager for the cd / dvd drive if the driver has a yellow exclamation mark put a right click and uninstall the driver restart the computer ► if this does not work reseat the optical drive ► if this does not work then needs to perform a recovery if it does not work after the recovery then it is a h/w issue and needs to replace the optical drive

I put the dvd in and nothing pops up, so where do go to view the dvd

Be sure that the DVD unit is plugged correctly into the laptop. Second, if nothing "pops", go to my computer and open from there the dvd content. If the dvd it's not present on My computer, it means that it's not correctly connected, or it's broken.

CD - ROM

If you haven't tried reinstalling the drive, this may help:
- Open the Control Panel - Open the System folder - Click on Hardware - Click on Device Manager
Locate the DVD-CD-ROM entry and expand it. Highlight your optical drive and press 'Delete'
If it argues with you, answer 'Yes' to the question of deleting the drive(s)
Reboot your computer and watch for a message box reading that a 'New Device' was found and software for it is being installed.
If it still doesn't want to cooperate, then the drive is probably 'toast' and will need to be replaced.
