Convergence PROBLEM pHILLIPS mAGNAVOX 60" rEAR pROJECTION

Our 60" Phillips Magnavox Rear Projection TV model # 60pp9202 is currently at the repair shop for a convergence issue. The repair technician has replaced the normal IC's and chips that are required to fix this problem. The service convergence is now OK, but the manual convergence will still not align and the screen is still sloped. Any solutions??? The repair technician is about to give up!
Comment by Kimmy100, posted on Apr 11, 2008 Our repair tech. said he did this and did not correct the problem. Any other suggestions?

After studying the service manual, schematics and parts lists, I have found that there are actually 12 6.8 ohm resistors in the convergence circuit. The parts list shows them all as the same, but on the board I found two that looked different. I ended up replacing them all with the 6.8ohm 1w as per the parts list and the TV has been working great. I know most of the master techs here say only 1 or 2 go bad, but if you have the board out why not replace them all?

replaced the 6 ret resistors (3155, 3156, 3157, 3158, 3159 and 3160 all RMO 1W 6R8 J) tv will work great.

There is a particular convergence procedure that must be followed in order. If the sequence is not followed, the convergence will not occur. Please list the parts that were replaced. As stated in an earlier post, there are 2 pico fuses that need to be checked. There is also a possibility that the feeder voltage resistor has changed value enough to effect this, but that is extremely rare. Update this with the replacement parts and I'll check the service manual for you.

If the TV is at a repair shop, the tech should know where the power goes into the STK ICs. I would also suggest to check the low values resistors for an open condition.
The other solution could be that the installed ICs might be defective, even if they are brand new.
Let me know if you need more assistance.

Hi,

All i can say is that this is very common.May be it is not the convergence circuit in this case. it is the power supply not giving the convergence circuit the power it needs to run. there are several parts that need to be repalced here.

Or may be the convergence amplifiers need to be replaced. They're on the Small Signal Board (the one with the tuner[s] on it) and the part on the amp's (there are two on them, replace both) start with STK and will be followed by some numbers and pssosibly letters, such as STK392-110.

Goodluck,
Please don't forget to rate the solution.

Yes its the convergence ICs. You will need ywo STK392-120 ICs and about six of the 6.8 ohm 1watt metal resistors to repair the issue. You can get replacement ICs and resistors at the following link and they will provide free instalation instructions with pictures so you can easially do the repair yourself and save about 400.00. Here is the link.
