Whirlpool refrigerator--water freezing in floor of bottom freezer then leaking onto floor

whirlpool bottom freezers with ice forming on the freezer floor is nothing new. It is formed most likely by an ongoing issue with the design of the defrost drain becoming clogged and there is a revised kit for it part# W10619951.

Whirlpool has extended the warranty of this issue only to two years from the date of purchase and will usually give you the part but charge for install.

It can be put in in less then 10minutes using just a 1/4" hex bit and a small flat blade screwdriver to release the clip on the old "slide" style drain.

Once installed,it is best to defrost the fridge for at least 24 hours (doors open and unplugged) to make sure all ice is melted from inside the unit.

If your drawer was not closing, you would have frost.. If your defrost timer (which virtually no newer units have since digital controls are the norm with adaptive defrost) then you would have frost, not ice.

The fact that you have water is telling me it is defrosting and re freezing.

List a model# for further support if needed please

Water pools and freezes at bottom of the freezer. When tray is full water leaks out of freezer onto kitchen floor.

I am uncertain as to what you mean by "when tray is full"? However, you probably have a clogged drain in the freezer compartment. During the defrost cycle, which usually occurs every eight hours, defrost components (defrost thermostat & heater(s) ) melt the ice that has accumulated on the evaporator coil in the freezer compartment. The water from the melted ice drains through a hole in the freezer compartment (behind the freezer's rear panel) and accumulates in a drain pan below the refrigerator. This water should evaporate over time, whereby you should not have to regularly empty the drain pan. If the drain hole is clogged (usually from algae or other debris, etc.), the water finds another path to flow (which is inside the bottom of your freezer compartment). This water will usually freeze. Water will then flow toward the front of your freezer compartment and out of the door on to the floor when you open the door.

Contact an appliance service company to unclog your freezer drain. Also have them check your defrost components (thermostat & heater(s)).

Freezer icing over at bottom and leaking onto floor

Hi, You will need to remove the rear panel in the freezer and then remove the ice build up in the drain pan. The drain hole will have ice down in it.Make sure all the ice is gone and then flush the drain hole out with hot water (a basting serenge works great)
This should take care of your water problem.
If I can assist you further, please let me know and please rate me response so that other as well as my self will know how I am doing.

Thanks

Amana bottom freezer: water leaking & ice build-up

There should be some kind of drain at bottom of freezer compartment to collect and run off any condensate that collects during defrost cycle.. Clean out the drain and snake out the line that leads from it. Right now the liquid is collecting where it should not and it will leak out the gasket when you have enough of it.

Water accumulating in bottom of freezer and leaking onto floor

Yes the drain is clogged and the water that supouse to go through became ice so it make it worse.Put hot water in the drain hole until it runs through,it'll go to an evaporative pan on top of the compresor to keep it warm and vaporize the water.

Samsung Fridge Freezer leaking water

hi August.
Cause: A blocked defrost drain is one of the most common causes of water leakage. This happens when food particles or other debris clogs up the drain hose, which can lead to ice buildup and, eventually, water leaking out of the freezer and refrigerator.
3 common refrigerator problems you can easily fix yourself

The freezer drain hose will drain the defrost water into a drip pan at the bottom of the freezer. When this pan becomes full, it will leak water onto the floor. This is a regular maintenance task whenever the freezer defrosts. Empty the drip pan during the defrost cycle.
How to Fix Water Leaking From the Bottom of Freezer

Why is my fridge leaking water on the floor? If the refrigerator is leaking water it's possible that the refrigerator has a clogged or freezing defrost drain. If the defrost drain freezes the defrost water will overflow the drain and drip down to the bottom of the compartment, If enough water accumulates in the bottom it can run out onto the floor.

Jenn-Air freezer leak

Apparently it is the drain behind the freezer panel on the inside and it is blocked. It needs to be unblocked and cleaned. You remove the food and the rear panel on the inside of the freezer. With a hair dryer (carefully) remove all ice build up and then unblock the drain line going to the pan under the refrigerator. The drain line can be cleaned with bi-carb and hot water (not boiling).

Freezer compartment leaking water and icing up inside

Solution #3 fixed it.

Pulled everything out of the freezer, found where the drain was, it was blocked with ice, hot water and then a flexible straw, the kind that comes from an ammusment park kids container, shoved it down the opening after the hot water and it cleared whatever was blocking the drain.

Thank you very much - Mark
