Question about Toshiba Satellite A75-S231 Notebook
I had my laptop for about 3yrs now. never had a problem till a few months ago when it started unexpectenly shutting down on me w/o any warning. i tried to download updates but its not allowing me to do that either. i read your most common problems with toshiba and i'm taking a look at it. i'm also looking into download its backup software, i lost its cd for it. any direction on how to get this software? your help its greatly appreciated. thanks
First, you need to find out what is causing the shutdown problem.
Most likely since you have this laptop for 3years now and (i am assuming you havent had this serviced). You might be suffering from overheat problems since you are using a DESKTOP P4 cpu.
Try to dismantle your laptop and remove the Fan and Heat sink. CLEAN them and put new thermal paste to the cpu.
Do that and see if this fixes the problem. If not, let me know again
If i was able to help please rate this solution as a fixya!

(suffering from overheat problems)
Thanks, I have been facing the same unexpected shutdown, due to over heating and I tried dismantling my laptop, but I am not able to dismantle it completely to reach the fan and heat sink to clean it, cud you pls guide me how to? or if you can assist me with the satellite A75-S231 assembly design. Where do I find this thermal paste and how and where to apply it.
Pls help, I like this laptop a lot and I do not wish to sell it that too for a price equivalent to peanuts which I was offered(some of the service guys not being able to find ou the problem advised me to sell it saying it was too old not worth using)
