Convergence problem Hey guys. My convergence is out of whack just like all of these other postings I've read. I want to try the repair myself. Any links on step by steps to replace the chips and which ones do I need? Oh and any recommendations on where to order them? Thanks.

Your convergence has failed and needs to be repaired. Once quick test is to goto your convergence menu and see if you can adjust red and blue. If not its has failed and needs to be fixed. You can call in a repair shop or you can get the parts and instructions from www.TvRepairKits.com and do the repair yourself. Its a fairly easy DIY fix.

How Do I fix the convergence on my 2001 Hitachi Projection Tv

Your TV most likely has one or more possible problems.

Problem #1: Convergence Chip Failure ( common problem )

Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos of a convergence problem

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors. Check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. They have put together a kits for most models. If you don't see a kit for your set send them a quick note and they will put one together for you. Their kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, etc.

Problem #2 CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos aroundimages.

What you will need to do is replace the coolant and clean the crt. You can get a repair kit from www.TvRepairKits.com that includes replacement coolant, photos. instructions, etc.

My convergence on my Toshiba 57'' is out of whack. Only the Blue is an issue where I am unable to repair through the Convegence setting menu. I love the TV and would like to fix this myself without...

did you try to set the convergence adjustment on the remote control? there is a pattern (crosshatch) which you can adjust the convergence of RGB guns,If it cannot be done on earth as it is an heaven... you must open the back cover and look at the liquid coolant at blue gun, that liquid acts as a coolant at the same time as lens, check the level of liquid, usually it leaks and need a repair kit for replacement, make sure not to drop the coolant on the board that's conductor and corrosive.

Convergence problem ,Help Please

Something is not right here. Is there any possibility that you can get the circuit designation (Rxxx) of the resistors that were "incorrect"? I am not aware of anything like this that can cause the "memory to be erased". The only memory in that area would be the factory convergence settings which can be modified from the service menu. Please try to supply the resistor IDs and I'll check on this.

Thanks,
Dan

Zenith R49W36 Rear Projection TV Convergence IC problem

Had the same problem with my Zenith TV. Convergence was all out of whack. I purchased a repair Kit from www.TvRepairKits.com. The kit had all the parts and simple step by step photos of the repair. I cant thank them enough for making this possible . At first the repair did not work so I emailed them and within an hour they told me to check two other items. Sure enough they were right! The set is now working perfectly.
Thanks Guys, I will spread the word.

PROBLEM W/ 61H70 CONVERGENCE

You need to re-solder the circuit board that contains the STK convergence modules. They're on the center circuit board attached to an aluminum heat sink that's about 8" long and 6" tall, about dead center in the circuit board. You may be able to recreate the problem by gently moving the heat sink (which the modules are connected to). This gives the hour glass effect on the picture and the advanced convergence screen. This is an indication that the modules pins aren't solidly connected (meaning soldered) properly. Remove the circuit board and clean the old solder off & resolder the modules pins to the circuit board reconnected the board and then retest by again pushing on the heat sink. This is a caused by a minimum effort (a.k.a. minimum cost) solder job, probably done in some 3rd world sweat shop. The "factory" job was good enough for 3-4 years but the heat (and these modules do create a lot of heat) and stress created from repeated use eventually takes it's toll, weakens the pin connections and our problem occurs. take the appropriate cautions working around the high voltage of the set & use a non-conduting piece of wood to push the heat sink when we doing tests.
Best of luck, hope ya fix it.

You could replace it yourself. I had it done recently and the local repair shop charge $400 to do it (including cost of the chip).
