Sounds to me like it's asking for your sound card. If you have the sound card installed, does it work? (Does it play system sounds?)
Have you gone to the Creative website and downloaded the latest drivers?

Whenever I install a program like that and it asks for hardware, it means it can't find it.
Try removing the sound card (if possible), restarting the computer, then put the card back in and start it up.
Or--remove the sound card in device manager and let Windows find it again when it starts--could be a conflict.

Unabale to recognize format for a file

I think this means that Creative Media Source doesn't recognize a program on your computer that can open the file or Creative Media Source doesn't know a program to open the file. You can always Google the file extension like .avi or .wmv to find software that can play it or convert it. You can find the extension of the file by right click>properties a window will appear and will show the file name and will look like this:
thisisafile.avi
blahblah.mp4

Can't Add files to mp3 after reinstalling-device not found.

I have an older ZEN, so I'm not sure if I have Creative Media Source 5, but mine never worked really well either. My Windows Media Player recognizes mine, so I just sync to that library. I even have gotten a new laptop since I got my ZEN and I never downloaded anything, I just connected it to Window's Media. I hope that's helpful!
