System reading low salt

No more salt for now!!!!! 1st thing you need to do is check your salt ppm.. must be around 3000ppm.. The 8110 models have issues with their cells that will continue to give you a low salt reading regardless of the salt level.. You must check the cell for calcium build up and clean.. You can soak with vinegar or as others recommend, muriatic acid to clean the cells. Pressure flush to get all the "White Flaky" stuff out.. Dirty cells WILL give you a low salt error on the unit.. If after cleaning the cells you still get this code, you may have a bad cell.. If you are just starting out and the unit is new, YES you will probably add over 300 lbs of salt to get you going and be around 3000ppm on a 14000 gallon pool... Be sure to run your pump only for 24 hrs to properly dissolve the salt and then set your cycle...

If you have an Easy Set pool, should be around 5500 gallons, then the initial salt add should be approximately 135lbs...

If you have an Circular Metal Frame pool, should be around 6400 gallons, then the initial salt add should be approximately 160lbs...

Make sure you only run the pump for 24 hrs to properly dissolve the salt, then you can set your chlorinator to desired time... Start high and work your way down... 10 hrs pump and 8 hrs chlorinate...
Check your chlorine level after the first two days and see if it starts to climb above 3ppm, if it does, lower your cycle time until you can maintain the 3ppm level...Hope this helps you?

Your pool should be between 5000 and 5500 gallons= between 125 to 135lbs of salt... They come in 40lb bags... Your salt PPM should also be 2500 and 3000.. Test strip reading at 6.2 to 6.6
Add your salt by spreading around the pool and run your pump only for 24 hrs to properly disolve the salt.. Then you can set and start your chlorinator... Good luck and enjoy your pool...

A low salt level warning is indicated on your VX Chlorinator if the salt level drops. If Low Salt is indicated, check again in 24 hours and then if it is still indicated, add two 25kg bags of salt to the shallow end of your pool. Run the filtration system for approx. 6 hours to help mix the salt in the pool. It can take up to a day for the salt to fully dissolve.
If the low salt light is still on, then you should get your pool water tested. If the Salinity is above 4000ppm then you may need to have your Chlorinator checked.
Warning: Some people recommend that you put salt directly in the skimmer box. This is a very bad practice as it allows very high concentrations of salt to be passed through your filtration and other pool equipment.

Sound to me that you added wat to much salt.
If you are using a salt test kit that eads in colors throw it away and get a kit that reads in #.s
If you are using the one with #'s then proceed to getting your water to as close to 3000ppm as possible
Drain 20 % water ad fresh and check again keep doing this ti'll you get close to the 3000ppm

any lower than 2800 and you can read low salt and worse of all you will not produce enough chlorine any higher than 3500 and you will go cloudy and read high

It is my opinion that you were low salt and then adding to much salt put you to far to high

remeber anytime you add salt you should filter only for 12-24 hours to distribute the salt properly so the unit knows what it is reading

While adjusting your salt level clean your new cell with vinegar let it soak for a few hours You should have received a cap to cover one end of the cell while soaking
once cleaned it will not grab hold of the salt water until the generator is turned on

Just remeber 3000ppm

25 pounds per 1,000 gallons or 3 kg per 1,000 liters of water.

I would say the rain is diluting the system at this point, or the system sensor has gone out. But if you had heavy rains I would be looking at that idea first.

You may have a hard water problem. Remove and inspect the unit containing the plates. You'll be able to see build-up. I was surprised to see how much it had coated the plates after only a month of use. Cap end and soak with vinegar. Re-install. Check regularly. Also, with the initial salt startup, a 16'x48" requires 120 pounds, the first time your low salt light comes on, the manual says to add 30 more lbs. That's a total of 150 lbs. Speed up the salt dissolving process, mix it up physically and aim the return down into the water, remove the skimmer if you have one so intake and circulation is maximized. Run for 24 hrs. Make sure you have a more than adequate pump with a clean filter. I replaced mine with a larger Intex pump.

Ours said low salt too after we had added enough, then added 25 pounds more. I was really worried of adding too much because then you have to drain it and start all over again! We waited about 6 hours after adding the last amount, giving it plenty of time to dissolve, and now it's working fine. How long are you waiting in between additions of new salt and running the system? Good luck!
