There are seperate adapters that can act as interfaces between SATA and the ordinary ports of the older mother boards.

These are called SATA to IDE adapters,.
see this link

If you have already bought or have some SATA hard drive and like to attach it to *********** board, then these adapters can come in handy

Hi my drive doesnt show up in My Computer and you hear the drive running for about ten sec's, it makes a clunk sound and the drive turns off... thanks for any help with this

I suspect the drive is toast. To test it, take the drive out of the external case and attach it to your computer as a slave drive. See if it shows up in My Computer and if you can read from it. If it works there, then you know that the logic board in the external case is bad. To slave it to your computer, the procedure depends on if it is an IDE drive or SATA drive because it is 1TB I am going to assume it is SATA. The easiest way to connect it is to unhook your CD/DVD drive and connect the cables to the hard drive. This assumes that is also a SATA drive. If not then you will have to get a SATA cable and connect the drive to an empty SATA port on the motherboard and hook up a power plug. Then you will have to go into the BIOS setup and turn on that SATA port. If the drive does not work as a slave, then it is probably dead.

The Green Board on the underneiths side of my hard drive has a burn spot on itand doesnt work, can i use a different green board from another hard drive (different brand)i have laying around.

Nope, even on swapping hard drive board with same spec(size, board version) doesn't guarantee success.

Consider how the hard drive is construct on different brand. Initialization, disc number and many things.

It maybe, if it is same spec like size, brand, board version and model batch.

Sata, ide

Update: SATA II drives do have jumpers to make them backwards compatible with 1.5 Gb/s (SATA II drives are 3.0 Gb/s). So if your system is older and can only handle SATA (first Gen) then you have to add a jumper (Seagate has the jumper setting on the drive but sometimes supplies no jumper i.e. you have to have your own).
