Question about RCA F36668 36" TV

1 Answer

TV turns on & off by itself. Channels also change by themselves.

My TV seems to be possessed by something. It turns on and off by itself. Once it's on, it won't be long before the channels start changing. At first I thought I was sitting on the remote. It wasn't that. I took the batteries out just in case it was the culprit. It's an RCA 36" F36668 TV. Can anyone explain?

My television also just stopped working. It just clicks when I try to turn it on with the remote or at the set. Have you had this repaired yet and if so, how much did it cost?

Make sure your remote is totally away from the set.
Make sure the buttons on the set are not sticky
If both of those are ok, it's your E-Prom in the set. RCA's are notorious for this, not a major repair, maybe $75-100. The 8 leg e-rom is only about $6.00

I have a Samsung LN55B650, and cannot use the remote to change channels, hav eto use cable remote. I change to TV mode, and program in channels, but that option is not available once I switch to HDMI2,...

OK the cable box remote is the only one that can change channels in this case. because you are using the tuner in the cable box not the TV.
all you need the TV remote for is to turn the TV on and off and turn the sound up and down. if you used the cable input on the TV then the tv remote would be used to change the channels.

Changing channels

A common issue with this model is the control key board (the key input board that has the buttons on the cabinet of the TV).

This board can cause a lot of issue ,from changing channels by itself,to intermittent shut off, also sources cannot be switched or they switch by themselves.

The less common issues would be the remote eye or the main board.

If you give the full model number and the product code from your TV, I can give you the part numbers.

19LG30 TV issue

Call LG and schedule a service call with a local tech to properly diagnose the system. Sounds like it's a main board issue, though.

Our LG 37LB1DA is scrolling through channels

I have seen problems similar to yours in the past. Several causes can make the channels change by themselves. Some corrosion on the main board near the channel up/down switches for one. The next common cause is that the EPROM may be failing or a fault with the main control processor. A good test to see if the EPROM is having a problem is to program in all the channels off the cable and then unplug the TV over night and then plug back in the see if any channels are missing.

TELEVISION HAS MIND OF ITS OWN

It's possessed just like mine! ;) So I have no idea besides a basic check:

Does the tv do this even when you take the batteries out of the remote, and block the sensor in the tv with tape or something to make sure its not someones remote doing it?

TV changes channels itself

Have you checked to see if any of the front panel buttons are depressed and stuck??? this is a big problem these days?? I have also found the infared remote sensor to be bad on some sets that do crazy things all by them selfs.. A funny storry once i had was a customer called me after her mother called some goast finders as her maggy projection set would go on all by itself andf the channels would change and the volume would go up and down all by its self. funny thing I had a set just like thast in the shop at the time with the same problem and I scoped out the output pulse from the infared reciver on the set and that was putting out noise on the data line and caused the set to eratacly do all sorts of weird stuff. get the point?? its a stck button or the remote sensor is bad.
