Question about ASUS EN8800GTX/HTDP GeForce 8800GTX, (768 MB) PCI Express Graphic Card

3 Answers

Graphics card Hey I had a nvidia 7900gtx and upgraded to 8800GT on win XP. Now all my fav games just reboot - Crysis, FEAR, Oblivion as it detects video or you start a game. Why? I have re-installed XP, tried service pack 3, somtimes it works, but most often it just reboots PC.

Hey, thanks for the input. I even changed the motherboard and cpu recently and it still does the same on those titles. Ive updated the patches and drivers and it still does it. Gears of war and MOH Airborne works fine with everything turned up full at 1600 x 1200
I think its the card but this is my second 8800 card (had an XFX 8000 GTS) and it did the same. Any suggestions? The bios is on auto and other games work fine. Just those so far.

I think so, it must have been updated by Service pack 3, hang on i'll check.....ok its 9c ver 409000000904. Must be some advanced setting like smart shading or HDRange or something fancy causing it. my PSU is 550W ATX2.0, only running 2 hard drives so its not that. Try those 2 games and I bet ya yours might crash too! PLS let me know. My FEAR is original so its not that problem. Also, I lent oblivion to my mate with an XFX 8800 256MB card too and it rebgoots after a while too! Once in a while it actually runs but will reboot when you try change ANY options...Wierd

Have you downloaded and installed the latest drivers from Nvidia?

I don't think it needs Vista, as I have a 8800GTX and I'm running XP Home...

another thought... Did you go from AGP or PCI to PCI-E? if so, make sure you BIOS is set to PCE-E as the default video display...

I'm wondering if there is a setting on those games to choose OpenGL mode or just standard mode... Let me check on that.

If other games work without a problem, then I don't think it is the graphics card. It's either a conflict with the game, or a setting in the graphics card.

Also, do you have the latest version of DirectX?

Have you double checked to make sure the card is seated properly? Try taking it out and puting it back in....

Also, have you checked the temp of the card? Perhaps it is over-heating.. I have noticed that some Nvidia cards will only run the fan at 25-45% speed.. I would download SpeedFAN and check all system temps.. Running high-graphics games will heat the pc/graphics card up more quickly...I have actually downloaded FEAR demos with no problems playing.. Do not have the full versions of any of the games that are cuasing you problems, so I can't really test them...

Have you overclocked the card at all? Sometimes games will have problems with overclocked cards..

Also, try rolling-back the Nvidia driver to an earlier version.. Perhaps there is a problem with the drvier, your card, and those games.. it is possible... I think version 78.05 is the best one.

Also, you could try the Omega drivers as sometimes it will have better compat. drivers than Nvidia.

As a side note: for the heat test part, try taking off the side of your pc case, and pointing a house-fan at the pc. Let it cool for about 2mins or so, then try the game...

as another thought as well, try Underclocking the GPU, and see if that works.. You could also try the Ultra Tweak Drivers from Guru3D.

My nvidia graphics gets heated very soon...while running crysis games..is it normal?

Hi complicatedt,

Yes, it is normal, that's why graphic cards nowadays has it's own cooling fan.
The heating of the cards also depend on the system requirement of a program or game.

Hope this will help you.

How to set nividia geforce 8800GT into gameing mode for better graphics

I do not think there is a gaming mode, or none that I have heard of and I have been around for a while. But If you are having trouble maybe with the performance of the card I can suggest where you can peak the performance of the card. First make sure you have downloaded the latest video drivers from here. http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us
pick your operating system. Then after you install it, reboot. After the system reboots open up the nvidia program in the bottom right, there should be anywhere from 5-10 options in a list, one of them being performance, suggest you go through this in detail.

the 9800 is a industrial grade game card which means that it can **** some power with the right graphics games you might want a bigger power supply . or you can under clock by going into the computer bio config and chanfe the settings to get in you have to hit some keys like f8 or or del at boot    however your computer is set up..once there you can change clock setting  also go to card web site and search for clocking your card

Palit Geforce 8800gt 1Gig Glitches + BSOD

Nvidia's recommendations for the 8800GT are 26 Amps (I think) on the 12V rail... Although you would think 20 Amps would be enough, my next step would be to uninstall the video card driver again, get yourself a copy of a program called Driver Cleaner dot net, run the program in safe mode to completely remove all of the Nvidia driver, then reboot into Windows, download the latest WHQL driver for your card from nvidia's website, and see if that fixes it. If not, either try the card in a system with a more powerful power supply, or get a more powerful power supply, and see if your error goes away.

is it possible for you to test the card in another omputer ? like a friends or something ?

sound as if your card may be overheating...hence the need to restart the PC...normally if the card is faulty it will not work at all..

take the side over off your PC and use a normal room fan to blow air into your box... if everything now works fine you need more fans to extract heat out of you system...

8800gt black screen

Hi Juan016, you have done everything right. I'd say the 8800GT is bad & return it for a refund. Run the 8600GT & the NVIDIA 6100 at the same time. If you check the middle of page 9 in your manual. NOTE: It states; if a PCI-E is inserted the bios will automatically run the PCI-E card. (No need to make a bios setting change).
It also says if you change the setting in the bios to, OnChip and PCIe VGA, the motherboard should run both. Depending what amount of memory you set the NVIDIA to run with. Once in windows check the amount of total memory the NVIDIA or 8600GT reports.
Example: You set the NVIDIA to use 64MB & the 8600GT has 512MB than the NVIDIA or the 8600GT should show 576MB. Its not that uncommon one buys a bad video card.
Reading the manual & windows not seeing the 8800GT tells me the bios did not see the 8800GT card. The card is bad. You’re doing just fine.

Unable to play the PC game Crysis

AlanChong20, update you're video casr software. The radeon 9200 last update is listed at this link.
http://ati.amd.com/support/drivers/xp/radeon-prer300-xp.html
The date for the upgrade is Nov. 15, 2006 No more driver update are being made.
If you're game still gives you the same error try lowering the game graphics detail settings. If set to high, bring them down to medium. It very possible you're card does not have enough memory to play the game. The 9200 is a older card. It may be time to upgrade.

I have tried FEAR, no problems at full tilt settings.. Using the control panel settings to default may not always be the best solution. Check your 1st question thread for some additional solutions I provided.. I think it may be a heat issue.
