By default, it should cook at high (full) power.

On most brands, you would press Cook, enter the time digits, then press Start. And it automatically cooks at high power.

If it is losing heating power, your magnetron is probably failing.

This one's pretty old, but if you really love it, it's worth it. Owners of old microwaves usually love them. They're pretty strong units.

I just recently repaired an old GE (then by Panasonic / Quasar) convection microwave for a customer in New York. He shipped the whole microwave (95 pounds) to me and of course paid for return!

If you or someone you know wants to look into this, we have *critical* safety, disassembly, and troubleshooting info at our site, and our link is at our listing here on FixYa: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk

You should be able to find original or generic replacement parts at various places. If you want more help finding parts or testing etc, reply back here or contact me directly.

We're happy to help and we appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.

I have a microwave in which i have option only for timer no option for setting temperature how to use it

Unlike a conventional oven, your microwave does not have a provision for setting a specific temperature. There may be only settings for different levels of heating such as high and medium and a special setting for thawing frozen food. The manual for your microwave could be a useful source of information regarding operation.

The microwave oven cannot heat up food

Your microwave oven could have magnetron failure but the control circuirty also could be at fault.

Temperature at 10 power level

It does not work that way. The microwave OVEN generates (electromagnetic) microwaves that are absorbed by the molecules of the food in the oven, the container and the air.
The absorption rate depends on the molecular composition. After enough microwave energy is absorbed the overall temperature increases and the food is warmed, heated or cooked. If your mixture is inhomogeneous some parts absorb more energy while other absorb less and you can have hot spots.

The power level by itself won't give you an indication of the temperature because you need to know the time that the power has been applied. In simple terms Energy =time*power. The temperature reached is somewhat proportional to the energy, that makes it dependent on the time and the power.

We are using MW1080STA 1100w model in our lab. Can i adjust the the temperature(not power) in that according to my use like 40oc, 100oc 60oc. Please reply me urgent

The best method would be to use a food thermometer to measure the temperature of the food, and change the cooking time to get to the correct temperature.

M having lg microwave model no-mc-8081alr .the problem is it takes more time in heating food

A simple safety teast.
Place 1/2 litre of water in a glass container. Measure the temperature of the water.
Place in microwave and heat on full power for 1minute.
Measure the temperature after it has stood for 1minute.
If the temperature difference is more than 9 degrees Celcuis the magnetron is working and producing about 700Watts of heat.
If your microwave is labelled with 900 or 1000Watts. That is about right.
If the temperature is less then the magnetron is not working properly and may need replacing.

This a only a rough guide and any doubts you should consult an authorised service agent.

Kenmore microwave Model 72 8975590 (750 W) is taking longer to heat food. Takes 3.5 min to bring one cup water to boil, previously took 2,5 to 3 min. Does the element lose power over time?

I can adjust the power level so that circuitry seems to be ok. The longer water boil time could be partially due to the colder winter temperature of the inlet water. We'll just cook the food a bit longer as long as the magnetron is still working.

Microwave doesn't heat food anymore

Sounds like the magnetron has failed. This is the component that produces the microwaves that heats the food.

The cost of the magnetron is about 95% of the cost of a microwave oven. Most people don't, for this reason, replace the magnetron, they replace the whole oven which is probably what you will end up doing.

There is a possibility that the circuit that provides power to the magnetron is faulty and you need to take it apart, find the proper electrical leads and test them with a volt meter. To do this you have to remove it from its mounting and take it apart. It is a fairly lengthy process however.

Wont heat

Hi!

Here are two instances when this happens---
  • When the food you're baking is done on top but not on the bottom--or when baking just takes far too long to finish--the bake element may be burned out.

You may get fooled into thinking it's working, because the oven is hot inside. But many electric ovens use the broil element, too, during the preheat and bake cycles. So the food may be getting heated only by the broil element, which causes poor baking results.

If the bake element is burned out, replacing it should solve the problem. Otherwise, you need to further troubleshoot the oven's electrical system to locate the defective wire or component.

  • When the temperature is consistent but too high or too low, it could be one of several different things. First check to see if the thermostat sensing bulb has come loose from its holder. It could be lying on the floor of the oven or resting on the heating element. This would cause the oven to not heat correctly.

If the thermostat bulb is not dislodged, it's likely that the thermostat or sensor is either mis-calibrated or defective.

Electronic ovens with a digital display use a sensor to monitor oven temperature. To solve temperature problems for these models, you may need to replace the sensor. On some digital-display models, you can calibrate the temperature using the key pad. See your operator's manual for details.

Ovens without a digital display often use a mechanical system for controlling temperature. On many of these units, you can remove the thermostat knob and adjust the knob itself to more accurately represent the actual setting of the thermostat.

If, when you remove the knob, there's a screw on the back of it with a small calibration plate, you can loosen the screw, adjust the plate, then tighten the screw again. If the knob isn't adjustable, and the oven temperature is off by more than 30 to 40 degrees, you need to replace the thermostat to solve the problem.
If you find this solution helpful then do rate this solution.

Thanks
Rylee
