Re: theres no sound on my computer
Hi luxyan, please enter the bios & make sure you're SoundMAX Audio is set to Enable. (To get the bios to load, press the Delete key every 2 seconds untill the bios menu opends).
Save & exit the bios. Let windows finish loading.
(Windows may ask for the sound driver software). If not than open control panel than open add/remove programs & uninstall any driver software for you're sound card, if listed. Next open the System icon. Click the hardware tab than click the device manager button. Scroll down to Sound, video and game controller. Find the yellow ! point.
Right click once on the ! point & than left click update driver in the pop-up window. Windows Hardware Wizard will open, click No, not at this time & click next. In the next window click, Install from a list or specific location [Advanced]. Than click next.
In this next window click on the green check mark next to, Search removable media [floppy,CD-ROM...]. By doing this the green check mark should go away. Click the Browse button & find the folder where you downloaded the sound driver software. [from Asus oficcial site]!
Click to open the folder & point to (highlight) the folder that holds your driver software. Watch the OK button, it will slightly highlite it's self (meaning windows will search that folder & install the sound driver software if found). Click OK.
Re-start you're PC. Try you're speakers. If you still have no sound than you're onboard sound chip is defective. You're board was made back in 2003, Asus warrants their boards for three years. You're only other option is to buy a PCI sound card an add that to you're PC. (ASUS P4S800D-X link). http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?modelname=P4S800D-X&SLanguage=en-us

If you audio is built-in on the motherboard then -
You can download the audio and device drivers for your computer from the motherboard manufacturer's WEB site. I cannot give you the link to the motherboard manufacturer's WEB site because youhave not provided me with the details of the make and model of your motherboard.
If the audio card is installed on the expansion slot, then you need to open the computer to indentify the make and model of the audio card and then goto the audio manufacturers WEB site to download and install the audio driver.
Most computers need to have the sound drivers installed after you finish installing Windows. The drivers can usually be found at the computer manufacturer's website. Look for a "support" or "driver download" link. Then it's a process of entering you computer model and operating system wherever it prompts you.
If this isn't a name-brand computer, you can get drivers from the hardware manufacturer's site. If the sound is built into the motherboard you'll need to get the model number from the board and go to their site. Getting drivers from the computer manufacturer is best if possible, since they sometimes have custom versions of hardware.
If you can't find a manufacturer's site or they don't have downloadable drivers (it sometimes happens), you can search online for drivers. Many sites offer drivers, but you need to be careful. Some drivers may be the wrong ones, so they won't work. Some sites may try to put malware on your computer, so be sure your antivirus/antimalware software is updated. And some sites want you to pay to download. Skip those, there are plenty of free ones.
Once you have downloaded and installed the necessary sound drivers your sound will be back.

Well depending on how old your system is, there could be numrious things wrong. First make sure you have the green wire from your speakers( some speaker systems have multiple wires for surrond and sub connections, but if you only have one wire then that one) is connected to the green audio port on the back of your PC. Make sure the volume is turned up and the power is on. If you still have no audio then u are going to need to install the audio drivers. If you audio port is part of the main mother board then you need the model and make of the mother board. If you have an older computer with a sperate sound card then you need the model number and make of the sound card you have. Once you have that info then you need to go to the web site of the make of you equipment and download the drivers. Most web sites have a download driver section right on the main page. just download and install the driver and reboot your pc and you should have sound.
They are also programs out there that will automaticly find drivers for you but I dont recommend them as most are just spyware and adware programs, and will make your computer worse
Instruction for downloading 1. click the site. 2. select your operating system. 3. select the driver you want to download (ex: audio) then click download from (select which location to download). 4. Save file to start downloading. 5. Once completed run and install in your system.
Good luck. Please rate this answer. Thanks for using Fixya.

If you have the CD Driver of your laptop, try to install your Sound Driver. Just look for the Setup.exe or if it doesnt have a setup.exe and you want to install it manually, go to Control Panel and open Add Hardware, if your computer detected that the sound needs driver showing a critical icon(yellow triangle with exclamation point). Just browse the CD so that the computer will know where to find the sound driver. If you dont have a CD of your sound driver. Go the Gateway site. This is the support download site of Gateway : http://support.gateway.com/support/drivers/ddaStep.asp?Tab=All ----Just complete steps 1-5 and you can download your sound driver.
