The 29897 has only one mailbox, so you can't use it to separate messages.

To record an outgoing message, hold down the GREETING button. Record your message at the tone. Release the GREETING button when done.

I've lost my manual and can't remember how to change and record a new the greeting. Thanks for your help. Fran

At the base unit press the MEMO button, then press one of the mailbox buttons(MAILBOX 1, MAILBOX 2, or MAILBOX 3) begin recording into the MIC at a adistance of 8 inches after the long beep. Press the MEMO button to end and save the recording. If a caller leaves a message without choosing a mailbox, the message will be recorded in mailbox 1. Here is a link to download the manual.

Cannot figure out to set answering machine on my vtech, I recevied as gift.

Turn on the answering machine by pressing the on/off button on the base. Set the time and date by pressing the Time/Set button (to the right of the menu button) and pressing Change until the correct day or time is heard. Then press Time/Set again.

To record a message, press Menu until you hear "Set Outgoing Message", then press Record and speak the message (include the mailbox info if you are using them). Press any Play/Stop button to end the message.

Set the various features by pressing Menu to access each one, then press Change to change the setting. Press Time/Set to lock in the change and press Menu to change the next feature. Press a Play/Stop key to leave the menu.

The most important one is "Set Announce Only" to Off for callers to leave a message.

All messages will go into Mailbox 1 unless the caller indicates a different mailbox. Press the Mailbox button to hear new messages if the mailbox has a mix of new and old messages. Press the button a second time to hear all messages. Skip/Quick lets you advance to the next message and Repeat/Slow will let you hear a message again.

Press Vol (up) to adjust the base speaker volume higher during playback.

In the menu, the first option lets you set the two digit security code to access the messages when you call in from another phone. When calling press # followed by 1, 2, or 3 to access the desired mailbox. Press #4 to repeat a message. #5 to skip. Press *0 to end the remote call.

For the full manual, see: http://www.vtechphones.com/vtechphones/index.cfm/support/manuals/ and scroll down to 5866.

I hope this helps.

(all this assumes the base is on (connected to power) and connected to a good phone line. Without power it will not work at all. I test phone lines for dial tone with an old corded phone.)

I need to program an outgoing message and don't have the manual for the lucent partner 18D.

Depending on the type of voicemail you have, you''ll have to login to the admin mailbox. That's done by pressing your voicemail key or intercom 777. If you have a Partnermail VS the admin mailbox is 99 with the default password of 1234. If you mave a Partner Messaging System the admin mailbox is 0 with a default password of 1234 or 123456. Once your into the admin mailbox press 9 for admin programming. ,3 for greetings, 1 for auto attendant number, 1 for day greeting 2 for night( if your using a night key at the receptionist station then it usus the night greeting) # to go past selector codes2_bing.gif, 1 to start recording 3 to accept greeting hang up when done

Record a Primary message

It sounds like the recording for 22 may not be the one answering the call. another mailbox, say 10 the general elivery mailbox may be answering, this is the one you need to change.
