Question about Printers & Copiers

1 Answer

Printer: Canon PIXMA MP610 Operating system: Mac OS 10.4 Problem: Printing 4x6 photos is excruciatingly slow from iPhoto and Photoshop CS3. I thought it may have been something to do wireless printing, but even connected conventionally with USB cable it still prints the same. What's up?

    Hi,
Thanx for your response, however, now I can't even print! I keep getting a message that my cyan tank is empty. I just bought the printer and printed about 5 pictures!

When I open the printer, I see the cyan is not "lit up" so I lifted it slightly and clicked it back in place and it lit up. When Iclosed the top of the printer and it did its calibration it was fine, and printed a perfect alignment page, then went back to saying the blue ink was out again.

I am flabbergasted!!!! At this point do I return it?

    Thanx again.

    Thanx for your advice.
FYI: Canon had responded to me with basically the same information, however, your explanation is clearer and easier to follow.

When printing from programs like that, usually the "BEST" option is selected for the print quality.. Try going into the preferences and choosing a lower quality.

If that doesn't help, for Photoshop, you can "save for web and devices", choose PNG and then save to desktop, and use another program to print the file. Or when in the print dialogue, make sure "printer manages colour management"

Not too sure about Iphoto print settings, but there may be something in there.

I think the ink cartrige may be defective. Could also be the contacts on the printer itself. Try taking the cyan out, blow on the contacts, and put it back it.. See if that helps it stay on, as it could be just a little dusty.

If you continue to have problems, you could try a new cyan ink cartrige, and if that doesn't work, then return/exchange the printer for a new one.

My printer won't print from my Mac.

First step would be to make sure you have the most current driver for your printer and operating system. Uninstall you print driver, download and install the driver for your printer model and Mac OS from here:

http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer/printers_multifunction/pixma_mp_series/pixma_mp610#DriversAndSoftware

You should also download and install the available updated software. This should resolve your problem.

Starts to feed paper and then stops and says it is jammed, it's not.

We have become aware of an incompatibility between the ZoomAlbum software and the Canon PIXMA printers listed below. This issue applies only when using the ZoomAlbum software to print Photo Album covers with Mac OS X.
Affected Models
PIXMA MP240, MP250, MP480, MP490, MP560, MP620, MP640, MP980, MP990, MX320, MX330, MX860, iP3600, iP4600, iP4700 Printers
Phenomenon
The affected PIXMA printers are designed to feed paper via the rear tray with a center-feed mechanism and two paper guides. However, the ZoomAlbum software was intended to feed paper from the rear tray in printers with a right-feed mechanism and a single paper guide. As a result, when using the ZoomAlbum software with Mac OS X to print Photo Album covers with the affected Canon PIXMA printers, the printed image may shift.

To remedy this problem, please use the following settings when printing Photo Album covers with Mac OS X:
1. Click System Preferences
2. Click Print & Fax
3. Select your Canon PIXMA printer as the default printer
4. Select DL Envelope for Default Paper Size in Page Setup
Note: Be sure to change the Default Paper Size back to Letter after printing the cover.

Getting a borderless print

Try this if that helps:

Using iPhoto to create borderless prints To use iPhoto to create borderless prints, please follow all of the steps below:
  1. While logged in as an Administrator, install the latest Canon printer drivers onto your computer (with Mac OS X v10.2 or later as the operating system) and select the appropriate printer as the default.

  2. Launch iPhoto.

  3. From iPhoto, select and open the image you wish to print. (Please refer to the Apple web site for instructions on how to use iPhoto.)

  4. When you are ready to make a print, select from the Menu Bar 'File: Page Setup'.

  5. The Page Setup dialog will appear.

  6. Select the following settings:

    1. Settings: Page Attribute
    2. Format for: <Select the Canon printer you wish to use>
    3. Paper Size: 4x6 (borderless)
    4. Orientation: <Select the matching orientation>
    5. Scale: <Select the appropriate scale>

  7. Select 'OK' and the Page Setup dialog will close.

  8. From iPhoto, from within the Constrain section of the browser window, select from the pull-down menu (i.e., the button directly above the Constrain label) either '4x6' or '4x6 Portrait'. Then, using your mouse cursor, mouse-over the image and when the Cross-Hairs are over the upper left-hand corner of the portion of the image you wish to print, click and drag from the left to the right in a downwardly diagonal motion, releasing the click at the end of the image selection.

  9. Click the 'Crop' button.

  10. From the Menu Bar, select 'File: Print', select your options, then select 'Print'.

  11. This selection, revealed in the iPhoto window will now print as a borderless, 4x6 print.
I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue. If you need further assistance,
please post back with a comment to this thread.

Canon Pixma MP610 custom paper size problem

Normal 0 Driver could be corrupt.
Disconnect the printer or at least be sure it is turned off. I'd do both and reinstall the CD software program that came with the printer. When the software program asks you to connect the printer to the USB port, do so and it should again work properly.
Hope this helps. Bud

Printing onto photo paper from mac g4 computer

I put the 4x6 in the bottom cassette. I place it with the shiny side down. Landscape is when the 6" length is front to back in the tray.

I use the cassette exclusively for 4x6 and use the back tray for all else. It works great.
