The driver for Win 200 will work fine under XP. Vista of course is another monster all together.
What I would suggest under Vista is the following.
Use the same Win2000 Drivers...

  1. Extract the drivers to a folder.
  2. Plug the camera into the USB port and Vista will detect it. At this point (if you are really lucky) Vista will have drivers in it's catalogue and install them.
  3. If it does not have them it will pop up a box and ask what you want to do.
  4. Choose select the driver from a list.
  5. When the window pops up, choose Have Disk and browse to the folder you extracted the files into.
  6. Pick the right INF file and then select OK.
  7. It will then begin to try and install the drivers.
  8. Follow any other prompts you see, and make sure to read each one clearly.
Hope that helps =)

    1. Open device manager

    3. Select - No Not This Time press Next

    4. Select - Install From a Specific Location Press Next

    5. Select - Dont Search , I will choose the driver to install Press Next

    6. There is now a check box with - Show Compatible Hardware - Remove the tick from that box

    7. Browse to where the INF file is and selct it.

    8. The list should now show all the hardware listed in that INF.

    9. Select the one you want and click NEXT

    10. You may get a warning about it not being the right driver etc etc, just ignore it and keep pressing Next.

You can find a charger at Wal-Mart for about $45 that includes a car charger. I just got mine there after searching Best Buy and Circuit City to no avail! Just make sure to check the back of the case for compatibility with the battery and/or camcorder.

PV-GS31 often disconnects from vista

I called Panasonic directly today & asked about the Vista driver for the GS31. No such driver exists, but they are trying to develop a driver specifically for Vista users of this camcorder. Finally the mystery is correctly answered & solved for us Vista owners! woooohooo !

Using the PV-GS31 as a web cam

Go to menu. Under playback, go to USB Function, more than likely, it say Web Camera  next to it. Pan right and select DV Studio.

MENU
PLAYBACK->SEARCH
                     12 bit AUDIO
                     audio out
                     USB FUNCTION -> web camera
                                                  DV STUDIO

This should work.
