Cook time button problems

Our Magic Chef Microwave oven MCO153UB keeps giving us the (+) sign when we hit the the cook time button and we are not able to program the time needed to cook food. Any thoughts on why we can't use the cook time button?

The first thing to try is a "hard reset". Unplug it from the power line for a few minutes, plug it back in, set the clock, then try again.

Please reply back here and let us know if the hard reset doesn't fix it.

It may have a bad door switch, and we can help you check into that. The first test for that is to try it while gently lifting up and then while gently pushing down on the door.

If you don't have your owner's manual, you can download it here:

My magic chef microwave died. I replaced fuse, and electrical works but won't cook. Why?

Most likely if the fuse blew the part that creates the microwave energy is defective, it is called the "Magnetron" Just replace the oven is my suggestion.

Chef Banquet - turns off after 7 minutes? Why

It appears the problem is in the keypad controller board, it will only run for 7 minutes and give a loud beep, you need a professional for this, to assess the situation.

Magic chef mcd990b,microwave, purchased 3-17-11 from kohls, need the manuel

Most major manufacturers supply manuals online so if you were to log on to the manufacturer's web site, you may be pleasantly surprised as usually, if available, one is able to download, by model number, Customer Instruction Manuals, Dealer Network for spare part supplies as required.

The information is normally free of charge.

I hope this helps.

I've lost the book - how do you cook something at less than 100% power?

Hi, if you hit the Power button repeatedly, it will drop the power by 10% increments.

Low power when cooking. Takes twice as long to cook a frozen dinner as what the package states

Check the power output. Most are adjustable. With the microwave on, and cooking something, see if it is on 100%. If not, adjust it with the keypad.

My microwave keeps blowing the fuse upon hitting the start button

you have one of three problems (H.V. diode shorted or leaky, H.V.capicitor shorted, or the magnrtron tube is beginning to draw excessive current)if thats the case its not usually worth spending that for the mag.,the other two items aren't that expensive

I have a Magic Chef MCO153UB. When the unit is used to cook for 5-10 minutes you hear a distink change in the way it runs, the light stays on and the table still turns and the fan runs, but cooking stops...

Thanks for the great details about the light & turntable.

With that in mind, this is either a failing upper door switch, a failing relay or connection on the control board, or a failing magnetron.

If you or someone you know decide to look into it, we have critical safety information and disassembly information at our site, and our link is at our listing here on FixYa.

Another helpful link:
http://www.microwavedisplay.com/doorsw.txt

There should also be a helpful wiring diagram hidden inside the unit behind the control panel.

If you think the problem is on the control panel, we repair these nationwide by mail for $39.95 postpaid in most cases.

Feel free to contact me directly (and please remind me of your full model number) for more information & help.

We're happy to help you with free advice and we'd appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.

Oven turns off

Hi,

You are running the risk of damaging the Magnatron by doing this.

Check the packets you are using, you will have to reduce your power output.

This is because microwaves act by being absorbed by water. There is very little in popcorn and in fat. Once this has been evaporated, the microwave energy builds up (as it is still being produced - but not absorbed), and ends up cooking the magnatron itself.

I have seen countless posts on here after cooking popcorn!

More fun on the hob anyway - and cheaper to buy in bulk!
