    Hi eileens123

The 1st thing you need is the router's user manual. That will step you through configuring the router.

Please, tell us what the manufacturer, model number, and revision number of the router is and we will be more than happy to provide you w/ the information that you need.

(You can find the information I requested usually on a sticker on the bottom of the router.)

    Thank you

If your router is made by one of the (4) manufacturers I listed but it isn't listed on their web site, please, let me know. It may be on one of their other regional websites (e.g. Austrailia, Canada, Europe, etc.) The links I gave you were all for North America or US (depending upon the choices I was presented w/).

If the manufacturer of the router is not in the list, then provide us w/ that manufacturer's name along w/ the model number and version number of the router.

If you have any more questions or need any more help at all, just let us know. Don't assign a rating or choose a best answer for this problem until you're OK and you have everything you need. (Once you rate the experts' solutions the problem will be closed automatically.)

    Thank you,

    BJ @:)

Since you've already chosen a "Best Solution" you will need to open a new problem on FixYa in order to get further support on this topic. (Once a rating is assigned or "Best Solution" chosen, the problem is closed automatically.

    Thank you,

    Hello eileens123

Were you able to set up your friend's router using my recommendations and one or more of the links I provided?

If so, would you, kindly, take just a moment to change your rating of my solution to a "FixYa"? I would be most grateful if you wouldn't mind. :)

    Thank you!

When i try to connect my lap top to the wireless router it asj for a username password and logon domain

I think the operating system on your computer is Windows VISTA. You network must be secured. Make sure that you have all the wireless settings of the router. if you don't know the wireless settings of the router then you will need to open the set up page of the router and check the wireless settings .
You are getting the message about user name and password and domain name.
In this case you will need to add the wireless network manually.

When i unplug lap top lose enternet conection

What is the Operating system on the laptop ?
If it is XP then in the bottom right hand corner you will find Wireless network connection ( looks like 1 computer monitor). Use that icon to connect to the wireless network.
If it is windows Vista, then in the bottom right hand corner you will find 2 computer monitor icon. Use that icon to connect to the wireless network.
If it is Windows 98/ME/2000 then use the adapter utility to connect to the wireless network.
For MAC you will see the AIRPORT icon at the top.

Check the wireless settings of the router first . Make sure that yopu have all the wireless settings of the router. If you are not sure about the settings, then open the router set up and check the settings.

Cannot install D-Link router

1. check your wireless adapter TCP/IP settings if its set into "Obtain as IP address Automatically".
2. if the settings is set as Automatic and your not getting IP address then select "Use the following IP Address"
3. use IP address followed to your router address like if192.168.0.1 in router type 192.168.0.2 or192.168.0.3 just check the next address IP in your network.
4. after typing subnet IP will automatically set
5. type the router IP address as your default gateway
6. click OK to save your new settings

Hope this will help

Please help!

1. Click Start, Run, CMD, hit enter and write down the ip address of your default gateway.

2. Open your web browser, in the address bar type http://(ip of default gateway).

3. Type 'admin' for both username and password. If this doesn't work try using admin for just the password.

4. Go to wireless settings and first make sure that the SSID broadcast is enabled, if not enable it. Second, go to the wireless security section and choose an encryption method, i recommend wpa personal. Use a passcode that is easy for you to remember, you will need to enter it before you can access the internet wirelessly.
