Canon V40 HiE - No manual and can't find the charging port

My son has been given a present of a second-hand Canon V40HiE 8mm video camera. However, we did not receive the accompanying manual.

It's been a while since we used it and now need to charge it.. but... can't find the charging port (can't remember where it is!!) and can't remember what the charger looks like .... and have a huge drawer full... so have to identify it first!

Can you help? Also .. do you know how we can get a copy of the manual for future use?

Regards
Linda Gardner

The charging port is at the back of the camera directly below the battery. To the right of the port is the lettering - DC IN 8.4V. The charger is a two prong AC plug at one end, a black box in the middle (approx the size of 2 decks of playing cards) and then your plug to the camera. I believe the total length is approx 2 feet long.

Peace

The power adapter is a CA-550 -- it should show that on the adapter block. It plugs into the camcorder right below the battery when the battery is installed. (The US version of this model is the ES8100V, so you may want to look for a manual with that name.)

It should I would imagine look something like THIS, but with a mains plug.
I did a quick search on the net but came up empty handed on the manual.
If you contact Canon, they will normally supply a copy for a small fee though.

Hope that helps =)

Connect canon es50 50 to tv

Is this information not contained in the camera manual ? If you have no manual, you can download a manual for almost any equipment by Googling the make and model followed by the word Manual, then follow the appropriate link(s).

I want to buy a used 8mm camcorder that has firewire connection so I can upload my 8mm movies to my mac. computer. I think Sony's TRV350 has such a connector

Sony have made Digital-8 cameras in the past so aquiring a second hand unit is the most likely option.
You can use an A/D (analogueto digital) Converter to get the video into a PC.
Many mini DV cameras can also act as an A/D Converter if the camera has analogue inputs.

When I connect the battery charger to the camcorder it doesnt even even show that I have the battery charger hooked up nor does it charge the camera. Could that be a problem with the camera or the charger?

I got hold of Canon support. I had the same problem. Got a new battery, fully charged and would not run the unit. Canon told me to do a system reset. pull out main battery and aux battery (bottom of unit) and to power switch to aux for 90 seconds. the put batteries back and it should work. Hope this helps.

As this was quite some time ago, you probably already have your solution, but I just ran across this. Just in case you can use any other 8mm camcorder or deck if you can find one. Also if you still had it I would like to buy the Instruction manual from that old Canon ES780. Please write me back at bpgray@verizon.net if you have it. Thanks.
