Question about D-Link DIR-625 (790069292637) Wireless Router

1 Answer

Router seems to drop connection frequently

Home computer (Windows XP Pro) connected via ATT/SBC DSL modem -- works fine. Connected to D-link DIR-625 wireless routher -- works fine. A couple other computers connect to it wirelessly.

Then the connection keeps dropping out. Internet stopped working. Called ATT Tech Support, established that nothing was wrong with connection or modem. Then reconnected the main computer/modem (after changing to Bridged Mode) to the Router, reset the router settings (192.168.0.1).

Connection on router was working fine for a while and now is dropping in and out. I keep resetting the router's settings. PPPoe under dynamic IP and login/pass.

I don't know what's wrong with it. And now I can't find the D-link install cd.

Questions:
Should I ask for a Static IP from ATT? would that help in any way?
The other computers that connect to this router sometimes are:
Windows PC, Windows Laptop, a Macbook, and just yesterday a Macbook Pro.

D-Link has been selling two very different versions of the Dir-625 at the same time. Version C has a different chipset than the version A. You must look at the product label UNDER the modem to see what you've bought! There's nothing on the box to let you know that you're buying an orphan (version A).

What a static ip is, is the ip address that the router automatically assigns to other equipment. (computers, xbox, ect.) Find D-links customer support line for help.

Plug your internet into the router then, the router to the computer. Go to your network settings and run the network setup. This will change the settings in windows to except the router into the network. You may have to restart the computer. This should give you internet access to your computer through your router.

Hello, my d-link DIR615 type D1 disconnects himself usely about 3-4 times a day. With a reboot from the d-link it works again after a while. Can this problem be in the DNS? or can you please tell me what...

I had a similar problem in the past. I would suggest the following solutions:

1) Download the latest drivers for the D-Link DIR-625 or D-615 Router at the manufacturer's website DIR-625: http://www.dlink.com/products/?pid=501
DIR-615: http://www.dlink.com/products/?pid=565
-Make sure to download the correct drivers for your operating system (XP, Vista, Windows 7).

2) Download the latest firmware for the D-Link DIR-625 or DIR-615. It is available through the same listed websites.
Note: Make sure to use direct connection for firmware upgrades so that it upgrades securely without errors.

3) Make sure the modem is up to date. If it's your modem, then upgrade drivers and firmware by googling the appropriate model number and brand of the modem.

4) If it is not your modem, you can still upgrade the drivers and firmware. Further assistance should be available through your ISP (Comcast, Verizon).

5) Sometimes a connection may be disconnecting because the firmware for the connection via FiOS/DSL may not be upgraded in the infrastructure outside your house. To solve this issue, call up your ISP and tell him that you are disconnecting several times a day and ask if firmware is up to date.

6) It may be a faulty modem. If so, call up your ISP and they should replace it for free (generally).

7) Fault router may entail customer support at D-Link. Just contact through email and check your warranty. They may help you even if the product is out of warranty (happened to me).

Hi, I had my pc formatted and i can't find the CD that came with my Dlink dir 625 router.. do you know where i can obtain this software?

If you fomated your computer this will not effect your computer connecting to the router. All that the router software does is automates the process of setting up your router to connecting to your modem.

If you are having trouble connecting wirelessly you need to make sure you have your wireless card and drivers reinstalled. Not all drivers are native in the Windows install.

If you are connected via a wired connection again your need to make sure you have your drivers installed for your network card. Also you may need to check some network settings. The links below will help you do this.

Can't connect to the internet through the router. It worked fine until my ISP came out and changed the modem. I can connect with modem connected to Mac but not with modem connected to router.

If this is a cable modem, you need to restart the modem every time you change whatever is connected to it. Every device has a MAC address. Cable modems lock onto a MAC address that is connected to it and will only communicate with that device until you reset it by restarting. Some Comcast modems have a battery pack that must be removed in addition to unplugging it from the wall.

If it's DSL them maybe there is a username/password entered in the management console of the router.

Re: Frequent line drop

Easy way to diagnos is call ATT DSL support and ask them to run a line noise test. This will check the signal getting to the gateway. If everything tests fine there is usually an issue with the device.
