Question about Jenn-Air SCE30600 Slide-In Electric Kitchen Range

1 Answer

Clock display board

My original clock display progessively got dimmer and dimmer and is now dark. All the features of the oven that we use (burners, bake) still work. I even get a 'ding' sound when the temp reaches the inputted value (say 350 degrees). I decided to replace the clock display (71001799) and that appears to have done the trick. I now have the display back! BUT after a few minutes I get an F1 error code and the oven beeps continuously. I've turned off the power again and even cleaned the ribbon cable and made sure all the contacts were snug. When I put the old clock display unit back in I do not get any error codes or beeping. I read where the F1 means a bad power relay board in the back of the unit, another costly item :( Could my new clock display unit be defective?

after a power outage the clock display is very dim

  • Merry44 Jul 08, 2008

My oven is about 7 years old. Yesterday the numbers on the touch pad started to dim. The oven still worked but I couldn't see the temp or the time. We set the timer just to see if it worked and it chimed, but no numbers showed. Today the pad is completely dark.

I have the same problem. Where can you buy a C3 capacitor? On the internet? How do I specify the correct one?

  • susan533 Feb 04, 2009

i heard or saw a "pop" on the elec range display panel and it went dark. Oven temp and timer still operate and beep as they should. I cannot read any time or temperature. my range was installed in 1997. SVE47600B.
how do i replace the "capacitor C3" element referred to in other people's problem notes and is my range going to work with that C3 or is it too old?

Replacing capacitor C3 on the clock board will correct the dimming problem. I will cost you about $2 for the part. Replacing the board does the same thing just with a higher price tag. Unfortunately, tt sounds like you may have a bad "new" board if this problem happened as soon as you put it in.

When I had the dim display problem with mine, the oven still heated up, chimed at temp, etc -- you just couldn't see the numbers. My wife didn't like it, so I fixed it. If your old board works like mine did even though the display is dark, you could try replacing the noted capacitor and see what happens.

I hope this helps.

Hello there:
Please read the entire solution i have provided it doe4s cover things that you have said has already been checked but there is more to it
It won't bake or broil If neither the oven nor the broiler heats, but the range burners still work, the clock may be set for a timed or self-cleaning cycle. Check to be sure the clock buttons and knobs are set properly. If your clock has a knob that says "push for man(ual)," push the knob in and try heating the oven and broiler again. If they still don't work properly, you probably have a defect in the thermostat, selector switch, or common wiring. Note... If the oven doesn't have a separate bake/broil/etc. selector switch, the problem is often with the thermostat. It's not easy to check the selector switch or thermostat for proper operation. If you suspect a problem with either of these, call a qualified appliance repair technician. The clock stopped The non-electronic clocks on gas range/ovens often don't last long. That's a problem, because the clock is essential to the self-cleaning and timed-bake features. Clocks are rarely repairable--you usually just have to replace them. Electronic clocks have been more reliable. But, they're often integrated with several other features of the range/oven. So when the clock develops a defect, it often renders the entire oven and broiler inoperative. The electronic clock is usually integrated with a circuit board, and the touchpad that holds the buttons you press is often a separate component. If your electronic clock is defective, you may need to replace the touchpad, circuit board, or both. Although these may be expensive, they aren't usually very complicated to replace.

I have power to the burners on top but the oven dont work an the time clock is blank

The Electronic Range Control (ERC), also known as an Electronic Oven Control (EOC), controls all the features of the oven. This is your clock/timer assembly. The surface burners work indepently of the oven and usually have electrode type igniters that get their power from a spark module. Since you mentioned your clock display is blank, more than likely you have a defective ERC board. The following link explains how to replace one:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r3727366-replacing_control_kitchen_range

A replacement control board can be purchased from any of the following webistes:

searspartsdirect.com
pcappliancerepair.com
appliancepartspros.com
repairclinic.com

Prices vary between sites, so shop and compare. The first three sites listed also have helpful exploded view parts illustrations to assist you with locating and properly identifying the parts you may need.

NOTE: In most cases the overlay (preprinted plastic display covering with all the numbering and letering on it) does NOT come with the control board. If your overlay is still in good condition, it can be easily removed from the old control board and reapplied to the new one. Just make sure you properly orient the overlay so the buttons all match up. If you need to replace your overlay, you may need to order it separately. Read the part descriptions carfeully to see what your replacement parts include.

If you have any questions, please post back with your complete MODEL NUMBER and let me know. I hope this helps you.

The burners work but the clock does not light up and the oven won't work either

It sounds like your Electronic Oven Control (EOC) board is defective. This is the clock/timer assembly on the operator console. The EOC controls all the features for your oven, but the surface burners work independently. So, if the surface burners still work, the oven does not and the display is not present, its time to replace the EOC. The following link explains how:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r3727366-replacing_control_kitchen_range

Replacement parts (if required) can be purchased at any of the following websites:

searspartsdirect.com
pcappliancerepair.com
appliancepartspros.com
repairclinic.com

Prices vary between these sites, so shop and compare. The first three sites listed also offer helpful exploded view diagrams to help you locate and properly identify the parts you need. The EOC will be listed under the "Control Panel" parts section as item 2. The price and part number will depend upon the last three digits of the model number.

If you have questions please post back with a complete MODEL NUMBER and let me know. I hope this helps you.

Range

Unfortunately this usually means the Clock/Timer assembly needs to replaced. The Clock/Timer controls all the features of the oven, while the surface burners are controlled by each individual infinite switch on the control panel. Thats why your surface burners will still work, but the oven does not. That fact that there is no display also is a symptom the board is defective. They boards do not have a fuse and are not servicebale. It needs to be replaced. This is not a difficult repair and can easily be repalced by the average do-it-yoursefler. The following link epxlains how:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r3727366-replacing_control_kitchen_range

The part number for a replacement circuit board is 316207522. The overlay (the plastic preprinted template that is applied to the board) is sold separately (part number 316220804). If the current overlay is still in good shape, it can be peeled off and reused.

You can purchase replacement parts at any of the following websites:

searspartsdirect.com
pcappliancerepair.com
appliancepartspros.com
repairclinic.com

All these sites are reputable and offer great service with competitive pricing. So, shop and compare.

NOTE: The Sears website sells a refurbished version of the control board for much less than the other sites. The part number is 316207502R.

If you have any questions about this repair, please let me know. I hope this helps you.

The touch pad on my Jenn Air Model JES9800BAF does not work. The clock does not display either. All four burners operate normally.

All burners work fine, clock display is blank, if the oven isn't working either, your display / control board is shorted out

Sears Kenmore Elite Oven 790.99123405 Caught Fire!!!

The PF indicates a power failure.
The range experienced a loss of electrical power.
This code is usually cleared by pressing the CLEAR/OFF button.
If you continue to get this code, you may need to unplug the range and check the wiring connections of the power cord on the back of the range.
