Question about Toshiba Tecra 9000 Notebook

1 Answer

Wireless LAN PCI card

The wireless LAN on this aging but excellent laptop no longer works. System reports the card as working but says it's not turned on. Turning on the manual switch (or using the keyboard shortcut) no longer turns on the LED for the wireless card and does not affect the card. I have a replacement card (found on Amazon for very little money BTW) but before I tear the 9000 apart and install, I want to see if it is the switch itself that is faulty. Any suggestions or links to helpful sites would be greatly appreciated.

For the tecra 9000 it does have a wireless switch on the side of the laptop or infront.

the only way to test this is by dismantling it and using a tester. (hope you have them).

LAN Nic Card Seems to be bad? No longer works.

Before getting to this conclusion ...try to see if it isnt a driver issue ..the driver can be missing if you uninstalled it by mistake ..or if a an automatic update installed a wrong driver....or if you reinstalled teh operation system and did not installed the driver for it ..
In this case download the original driver from the support site ..and run it into computer ..restart and try out the card and see if it works ..if it does all good..if not ..than you may think of getting a solution ..usually the card is on the mother board..unless you are talking about the wireless one ..the wireless card can be changed a..and so the LAN card if it is not built in the mother board ..If it is ..and you do not have space or slot to install it..just get a card on another bus.. either usb or pci ..

Instead of trying to replace the wireless card which may be awkward to find an exact match, I would recommend finding an inexpensive Type 1 or 2 PC-CARD / PCMCIA Card (Not express card). You can pickup an inexpensive WiFi B/G Card which will work fine.

Good Luck

Try uninstalling your pcmcia drive in device manager and then restart the laptop and let windows reinstall it. With the pci wifi card out of the slot of course. Then once the laptop is started back up and the slot is reinstalled by windows reinsert your wifi card and reload the proper driver.
Good Luck.

Check Device manager to see if the wireless card is Enabled and working. If it has a yellow ? against it then reinstall the wireless PCI LAN driver.

My computer no longer has the wireless info in it

Okay - right click on the "PCI Modem" and select "Update Driver" - and reinstall the Wireless Driver. If that doesn't work, use the Windows Restore function to roll the system back to the last time the wireless worked. If that doesn't fix it, then the wireless function has probably died. You'll need to get a wireless network PCMCIA card for your laptop and use that to connect.

I am unable to install my wi fi

it really depends on what wi-fi card you have, the best way to check is to go to control panel, system, device manager, check for the yellow question mark by wireless cards, then it should tell you what wireless card is in there so you can obtain drivers.
Or check your laptop manufactures website, drivers are 90% of the time available on their, have you also checkd that your router is wireless enabled and that the secuirty keys and wireless settings match up?#

cheers

Lan card toshiba wireless no working

Check this Tip for an overview
  1. Connect your PC to your router using LAN Cable: be sure you can browse internet
  2. If you cannot browse check router config with your ISP
  3. Connect to your router using IP address you find for gateway in Network status
  4. Configure your router wireless section to match with your PC card
  5. Start removing security, broadcast radio signal, create a simple SSID as network name
  6. Check if router network is seen by your PC card (when you disconnect the LAN cable and activate the wireless card)
  7. If connection is established ( near the router) try different location
  8. Reconnect cable and reconfig adding security protocol (WPA-PSK recommended) use parameters compatible with your lan card

Lan and wireless driver for toshiba a135-s2246

Unfortunately, the Toshiba Satelite A135-S2246 was never designed to run XP, only Vista. Which is why you can't find any drivers for XP. The nearest you can get is to find a laptop running XP SP2 that is using the same LAN (ethernet controller) and WLAN (wireless ethernet controller), and see if they will work.

Here are the drivers I found for XP (please check which one's you are trying to install):

Atheros WiFi card driver:
http://www.wireless-driver.com/download/atheros/2007-7-23/Atheros-ar5bxb6-AR5424-mini-PCI-E-Wireless-Card-Driver-Download.htm

Intel WiFi card driver:
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/default.aspx
You will need to search for the card that you have.

LAN (ethernet controller):
http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=6&PFid=6&Level=5&Conn=4&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false#1
You can pick third or fourth from top depending on your preference.

Please remember that Toshiba, Microsoft, Atheros, Realtek, Intel and especially myself accept no responsibilty for what may, or may not happen when installing drivers not specifically designed for your system. All that said, I hope it works for you.

As long as you have an open minipci slot, they should work. The antenna pigtails should plug into the card as well.
