Try this:

  1. Turn on the laptop
  2. Wait for the first page to go blank.
  3. Start to press the F8 key repeadly
  4. You should get a Windows Start" page pop up that gives options on how you want to start Windows.
  5. If you see the Windows Logo (the screen you normally see when Windows starts) screen then just restart the laptop again.
  6. Choose "Last known Good Configuration" and press Enter.
If that fails then please post back and we can try some other things.

MY DELL E 1505 IS OVER HEATING AND GETS HANG

Due to their small size and lack of ventilation, laptops tend to overheat more than desktop computers. A noisy cooling fan that runs continuously is one sign that your laptop is overheating. Laptop overheating can also cause a loss of performance, system crashes, and even permanent damage to components. The goal is to make sure your laptop has proper ventilation and is kept as cool as possible.

1.Always use your laptop on a tray, desktop, or other cool surface. If you use it on your lap, make sure clothes, upholstery or bedding are not blocking the case vents. Blocked vents are the number one cause of laptop overheating.

2.Use an aerosol air duster, or can of compressed air, to blow dust from the air intake vents. Air intake vents are a set of slots on the side or bottom of the case that allow cool air to flow into the laptop.

3.Clean the cooling fan exhaust system. The cooling or CPU fan is located on the side or back of the case. A clogged CPU fan vent keeps hot air trapped inside the case. Use an aerosol air duster to loosen the debris, then use a vacuum cleaner with crevice tool to vacuum out the dust and dirt.

4.Use a commercial laptop cooler. A laptop cooler pad is an external USB powered fan that serves as a base for your laptop. If your laptop generates a lot of heat, even with a clean cooling system, a laptop cooler will extend the life of your laptop.

5.Adjust your BIOS settings. Most laptops have features built into the system BIOS that allow fan speed, CPU temperature alarms, and other settings to be adjusted. Read your owner's manual to learn how to enter the BIOS and change the settings for your particular laptop model.

Let's not go into the details. If you have sensitive data, you should be more concerned about getting that backed up.

My best advice to you if you're a novice is:

Take the computer to a computer repair shop. Ask them to backup your data. OR you can do it yourself if you have Windows XP CD. You'll probably have to format the whole thing anyway.

Good Luck!

My inspron 6000D makes a buzzing noise when its turn on. Is this a sign that the hard drive is about to crash?

Could be a sign of impending disk crash, or, it could be the fan. One way to check is open the notebook to a 90 degree angle, and CAREFULLY rest the computer on one side, then use a sewing needle or tooth pick to stop the cooling fan, momentarily (about 2 seconds or so). if the noise subsides, then the fan is the culprit. If not, then back up your data, and get ready to replace your hard drive

crashes, as in locks up? What kind of video memory or card you have? And, how do you have it optimized(faster performance, most likely)? This takes a bit of 'tweaking' to get just right.
