Check engine light? check oil level, low oil possible engine damage.is there gas in tank?guages can lie, add a gallon if not sure. when key is turned on, not all the way to start, can you hear the fuel pump, an electric motor sound? have someone listen above the tank with trunk open or listen under tank. past this, check if spark plugs are working, remove a plug, put wire back on, rest plug on metal to ground, turn motor and check for spark. please rate answer.

Testimonial: "Thanks for the Help. Oil was in the minimal.... Hope the engine still ok. Check all the rest and everything is fine. Talk with the Honda representative and he thinks is the ignition coil????? He is coming next week to have a look... If I don't manage to fix it over the weekend. Cheers :-)"

2006 Honda Element engine sputter

Temp.gauge really has nothing to do with the perfomance of the engine. If the car has been unused for a few hours, the engine oil etc settles down. It is good idea to let it run after a cold start so the oil circulates in the engine. Keep in mind it's a 1996 model and needs more care. Keep servicing regularly.

Engine sputtering

The temperature gauge on ALL car should always start at the extreme cold end, because of the accuracy range of the sensing device.
Your sputtering and stalling might be a automatic choke problem.
Knowing this will happen you can brake with your left foot and press the accelerator just enough to prevent the stall, when you have to stop.
Get a can of carburetor cleaner, take the filter / intake cowling off, and spray all moving parts of the carb really well.

If this does OR doesn't help find a NEW mechanic!

febddcc0-9eec-4f8c-a308-82ab8df3a80e.jpgCould be anything or everything here ,i have the same vehicle which is my sunday car as i cannot afford the price of fuel for it compared to my diesel escort.Now i suspect the engine breather but i would need my head under the bonnet to find the exact problem as it couyld be the small vacumn pipe to the fuel shut off valve on the fuel rail ,a split or perished breather pipe .Anything in fact along these lines is what i would look at first .Before i would start looking at things like fuel pump pressure and worrying about computer diagnostics.Should start in neutral though as mine does so it may need the inhibitor switch looking at later but not urgent .Mine is nice to drive but as it came from scotland it is well corroded underneath which is what i have been doing this sunday morning and thats spraying the underneath with a evil mix of underseal,diesel and clean engine oil all mixed up ,i kinow it takes a while to dry out but ? the rust absorbs the oil mix from the paint and turns back into metal -and no i dont understand this action but i know it works

When i leave my car on and parked it sounds like its going to shut off

You don't state whether the car is manual or automatic transmission (yes, the Taurus SHO was made during the 1990's with a manual transmission). The RPM's could be an indicator that your car needs a tune-up by a qualified mechanic. Regarding starting the car in neutral, if it is a manual transmission, it won't start in "gear", the reasons for that would be obvious.

If it is an automatic transmission, you DEFINITELY need to take your car to a mechanic. If your car has been worked on by a backyard mechanic, it may have serious problems that need to be corrected before something undesirable happens: I had a car once that would start "in gear" and it was an automatic transmission. I almost ran over my boss once because I forgot to make sure it was in "park" when I started it. That could have been tragic.

Nissan pulsar '88. replaced starter motor, then

Is it a manual, or an automatic? Earlier Nissans sometimes have a problem with the neutral safety switch (a device that keeps the engine from rolling over in gear or without the clutch depressed.) Generally, if their bad, they need to be a little warm before they'll start, like setting in the sunlight for a few hours.

Good Luck!

1996 Honda Accord automatic transmission lay-out?

Hello;
You will probably be ok for a while if you tow it, fix the leak, and change the fluid and filter. Honda makes a pretty tough transmission. Depending on how much destroyed clutch material is in the pan when you change fluid will detrimine how long it will last. Make sure yu use the correct fluid in it. Wish you the best. Hope this helps, and please rate me highly.
Thanks;
