It is hard to tell exactly what is wrong without seeing it in person, but I can tell you what to look for. First check the power coming to the dryer.... is a breaker tripped? If you have fuses, make sure both fuses for the dryer are good. Even if only one is bad the dryer wont work. If you have a volt/ohm meter, you can check for power, first at the dryer receptacle, then where the cord connects to the dryer. It is important to wear safety glasses when doing this. Then you might check the door switch on the dryer. It is one of the first parts to go bad on some models. If you are not familiar with electricity, it would be good to have an experienced person check out your dryer.

There is something causing the drive motor to bog down. This means the fan isnt spinning fast enough and the whole unit is overheating. Check for anything around the edges of the drum, coins keys etc. The squeal is the belt from the drum being stuck. See how hard it is to turn by hand.
Most dyers after you pull the top up, the front should just lift a little and it should come loose, sounds like you may have the belt intact, but the motor is not conected to the belt.
that could be anything you just have to unplug the dryer and get in there and see what happened, the belt pulley could have failed and jamming up the belt, first off does the dryer start?if so and the drum isn't spinning then the belt could be broke but this says it's a g.e. dryer so this has a safety switch in it that won't let the dryer run if the belt breaks, also g.e. has a rear bearing that fails, did you hear any sounds before like metal on metal, this could be alot of things, there's a front bulkhead with glides on it,i've seen the drum cut through the front of the dryer before, if you write back send the brand name and model number and anything else you heard before or take it apart and see what's up.if the dryer has alot going on with it don't buy another g.e. dryer get a whirlpool.
It sounds like the drum may be stuck. Turn the dryer on with the door open, just keep the button pushed. Then try to turn the drum by hand, and see if it will start to turn.
sounds like the timer, unless it has a Evenheat contol board and a seperate motor relay, in which case its most likely the relay, or could be the computer
