Question about Sony CDX-MP70 CD Player

Sony CDX-MP70 Face Plate Controls

First, I would like to say "Thank you!" to all of you offering your expertise.

I have a Sony CDX-MP70 HU with which I am having some issues.

The buttons on the face plate (source, menu, eject, etc...) seem to be randomly switching functions. For example, I may push the Source button and have the Menu function activate or push the Eject button and have the Audio setting options appear. Other times the buttons do nothing at all!

This is not happening all of the time. Sometimes, without any rhyme or reason the buttons will perform their assigned function. However, I would say that 75% of the time I have a mixed up mess.

I don't mind opening this unit up and trying to replace whatever is causing the issue. I am just hoping to get some guidance so I am not going in blind.

Any assistance or suggestions will be GREATLY appreciated!

Hello Duncmeister

You can find Sony's listing for this device HERE.

It there is an issue w/ the bezel (face) interface, it may be possible to replace that sub-assembly. It's doubtful you'll be able to actually repair the hardware problem w/out replacing a subassembly as the problem is likely a failed electronic component.

Your best bet for resolving this problem, I believe, will be to get a warranty repair or replacement for the unit. There are no repair parts listed for this unit so, likely, you will need to send in the entire unit for warranty service. Sony's pretty decent about this, though, so, definetly consider that option.

HERE is Sony's support page for consumer products. Have your unit's serial number and model number handy when you contact them.

If one of those buttons becomes stuck or shorted, it will cause the above failure symptoms. I would suggest to take apart and replace those switches.

Does this unit have a removable face plate? If so try cleaning the contacts between the face plate and the main unite with some contact cleaner. Also make sure nothing is borken on the face plate or the main unit causing the face plate to shift around when you press buttons.

Could also be that the membrane switches inside the face plate are not working properly or are dirty, you could try opening up the face plate and cleaning it out.

You may even be able to replace just the faceplate for cheap, check eBay and Google for that.

Where is the aux input on the sony cdx-mp70?

Hello,

check the front of the player. If you don't find any Aux input then it means your player does not have Aux input.

Take care.

The buttons on the unit quit working with the exception of the OFF, volume, change channels. Can use the remote for most other functions. CD player will not open. Pressed the Reset button on unit plate but...

Unit was replaced. It wasn't worth the time or money to find out that I needed to replace it when I saw the cost of a new unit. I went to a local store that was more helpful than the Internet.

1. Rubbing alcohol and q-tips: Clean the sensors on the base unit AND the face.
2. Thumb tack and the reset button: Remove the face and push the reset button with the tack. I heald it down for about 15 seconds. Here's the manual if you need help finding the reset button. http://www.docs.sony.com/release/CDXMP70.pdf

Sony CDX-M8800 face plate is non responsive

There is a ribbon cable that tells the face what to do. You will have to take it in to get serviced as it is very hard to change. There are alot of pieces / parts inside.
hope this helps

Installation

It depends which vehicle it has been installed, some radios have to be screwed behind the dash but most you will just need sony removal keys, remove the trim and slide the keys (one each side) down the radio and then slide it forward if you're lucky it will come out without much force. Have fun!

Sony cdx mp70

It may be that the remote lead on the amp has been connected to the auto antenna lead on the radio instead of the amp remote lead and because the auto antenna goes down when the cd is inserted it is turning off you amplifier, check the connections behind the radio or if there is a light on the amp check if the light goes out when you insert a cd
