How to play my phone through kenwood xd-500

What the phone needs to have is something like a headphone socket. If it has one of them you can get a headphone plug to two RCA jacks lead and plug the RCA's into a spare AUX input on the back of the unit. You can't use the two mic sockets shown on the front in the photo.

Kenwood KT56 need a code that will work

Of course it has no volume the KT56 is a radio tuner! It needs to be connected to a power amplifier to hear anything. The audio out sockets need to be plugged into a stereo amp that has speakers. The KT56 is not a stand alone device!

You'll have to go to a VW/Audi dealer. Unfortunately, I had the same problem with a VW van and the only option was to replace the radio.

Compatability

The Kenwood TK-3200LU15 is the 2Watt replacment model for the TK-3101. the TK-3202 or TK-3203 are 4 watt models that can be used. Although, they have to be programmed with the frequencies and codes you are using. The TK3101 came with defualt GMRS/FRS frequencies.

Ipod

On the Kenwood models that are within about 6 or 7 years old or newer, there is an iPod adapter for the head units that plugs into the CD Changer port on the back of the radio. Kenwood makes an adapter (KCA-IP500) that gives direct control and charging through the radio and several companies make aux input adapters for Kenwood radios that will connect to the iPod's headphone jack.

Aux location

There is a RCA cable that comes off the back of the radio and also another cable for 3.5mm (mini-stereo jack) that also comes off the back of the radio. The RCA jacks can be used for "AUX" or "Sub-woofer" and the 3.5mm jack is just for "AUX". Your ipod can use the audio output jack or the headphone jack and plug that into the 3.5 mm jack on the back of the radio. You will need a "3.5mm male" to "3.5mm male" stereo cord that can be purchased at Radio Shack or Best Buy. Then you select "AUX" on the display with the source button to listen to it. You may need to go into the menu and activate the "AUX" input. Check your owners manual for details.
